Thanksgiving = incentive to buy sweet potatoes <3
Today’s lunch:
0.5 sweet potato and golden delicious apple sprinkled with TONS of cinnamon, 6 grape tomatoes, and a huge cup of chai tea!
I ate the sweet potatoes with cream cheese as well…new favorite combo? I think so!
Lots of closeups:
Most colorful lunch ever! Table top decorations courtesy of my housemate’s parents–who visited yesterday! As soon as I saw the mini pumpkins and flowers I knew at least one of those things will be under the mercy of my camera lens
I also did some baking this morning!
Carrot spice muffins from SusanV! They were more like muffin tops, because I don’t have cupcake molds! Can’t wait to have these with my oatmeal tomorrow morning–it tastes very cinnamony & gingery!
I halved the recipe and used a mashed avocado because I don’t have butter! I also used 2 packets of Splenda and 2 packets of raw sugar …because I haven’t bought any sugar yet! I keep meaning buy some honey at least, but I keep putting it off
Unfortunately I don’t have my pumpkin oatmeal from this morning because my sleep schedule’s all screwed up, and my camera isn’t high tech enough to take pictures in the dark
But it was awesome anyway! I soaked some oats and goji berries in milk and yogurt over night, then added pumpkin, flax, ground pecans, and a little granola this morning!
However, I have oatmeal pictures from several days before!
Oct 10 – Cocoa & apple oatmeal
oats, apples, cocoa, cinnamon sugar, flax
All nuked in the microwave for 2 minutes!
Sept 20 – Chocolate Banana Oatmeal
I can’t tell you how many times I had this for breakfast last year!
0.5 cup oats, water & milk, banana, cinnamon, ground ginger, cocoa
Also made with the microwave! I’m really getting the hang of microwave cooking~
It’s awesome that my housemate Sarah likes to decorate things~because otherwise this picture would be a lot more boring!
I should really be studying for a midterm I have tomorrow at 8: 30…but I don’t wanna
Oatmeal #127: Almond Milk September 20, 2009

[Nooooo firefox quit on me just as I was finishing my post!
]
Yay!!
Monday – first breakfast of the school year!
- 1/4 cup oatmeal
- 1 gala apple
- cinnamon & ground ginger
- ~1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup almond milk
I know this almond milk thing has been going on for a while now, but I’ve been missing out due to my overwhelming unwillingness to spend money! So imagine my joy when I saw that this stuff was on sale for $2.00 a carton at Loblaws!
I bought 4 cartons [2 original, 2 vanilla] and have already finished one! The original one has a milder taste than I expected and the almond flavor isn’t very prominent. But it smells like rice milk and it wasn’t too sweet–so I really like it! The vanilla one was wayyy too sweet to drink by itself, though. But it serves a double function as creme and sweetener in my coffee–so it’s all good!
With the milk:
I think I’ll probably need to add the vanilla flavor if I actually want to taste the milk with the oats~
Going back to Sunday’s lunch:
Quaker’s Tomato & Basil rice cakes, soup, veggies & ground turkey with worcestershire and black pepper
I’m addicted to rice crackers! SO GOOD!
Going forward to Monday!
Whole wheat bread + cheese + chicken breast, banana, peach yogurt & fiber1 cereal.
Not sure if I tried it that day or if it was later in the week, but I ate the banana with my ham & cheese. And it wasn’t gross at all! Although instead of the flavors mixing together in my mouth, the banana flavor stood out by itself and the ham & cheese was by itself–weird!
Dinner:
Ground turkey, baby carrots, corn, black beans, mushrooms, onions with parmesan cheese, and soup on the side.
I like saving the boiled water from my cooking and then adding some chicken bouillon to make soup! Saves me from having to dump the water out at the end!
More food to come! Am so behind on this blogging thing–just like how I’m already behind in my school work!

I’m in major confusion over everything in my orgo textbook. My exam is in two days. Verdict: SCREWED.
And when trouble comes my way, I procrastinate.

Oatmeal #137: Tropical Smoothie – Part II
- mango yogurt smoothie, PB, coconut, raisin granola, flax
The caf served these smoothies on Sunday–which was majorly exciting! Once in a while they’d spoil us like this…
Long story short: I took some of that stuff home for oatmeal!
Dessert for breakfast for the win!
Nov 25
- Golden Delicious apples, sliced blanched almonds, flax, cottage cheese, PB, brown sugar
This week’s oatmeal has been so full of excitement! I haven’t had brown sugar in my oatmeal since…high school? That was how my mom made them!
Question: What did your first bowl of oatmeal consist of?
Dinner:
Turkey breast + eng muffin + jam, peas
The lack of sleep is driving me nuts. Not to mention the fact that the chairs at the lab are extremely uncomfortable for sleeping on
It’s at times like these that I wish I was a midget…

I am obsessed. I’m almost out of quick oats! Am very sad…as I’m not sure how well organic oats will work with my microwave method…

Oatmeal #136: Apple & Coffee Pancake
More caffeinated oatmeal coming this way!
- coffee, apples, flax, ground ginger, cinnamon, milk powder, oats, greek yogurt
I need to figure out how to make apples look better in pictures….unfortunately the sucky lighting in my room doesn’t help!
But oh well–it was fun tasting
The smell of cooked apples and coffee was fantastic!
Snack:
Check out the snow in the background! How am I going to get to all my classes on time if I’m sliding all over the place? I hate snow
Luckily…it all melted away pretty quickly!
Lunch:
Very thanksgiving like! Except the Canadian Thanksgiving was a month ago
Turkey breast, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberry stuffing
Nov 21
Banana bread pancake–same as what I had on Wednesday–but with peanut butter! <3
+ spiced chai tea.
I always thought chai would smell more cinnamony–but all I could smell was something that’s like dried orange peels [star anise?]
Lunch:
I finally got my turkey chili!
Too bad I had to scarf it down in a hurry to get to bio on time
Chili, beans, edamame, cauliflower, zucchini, carrots, cottage cheese
Nov 22
Breakfast:
Cinnamon raisin english muffin + butter, turkey, kidney beans and chickpeas, cantaloupe
+ Lime Herbal Tea
English muffin = A+
Tea = Z——-
Am officially in need of more english muffins in my life! Too bad the cafeteria doesn’t bring them out that often
The tea was absolutely horrible. It was wayyyy too lime-y. I couldn’t even force myself to chug it down. So I decided to save it for lunch the next day:
Voila~
The return of cafeteria oatmeal! The last time that appeared on the blog was April 27–aka a very long time ago!
- pears, cottage cheese, tea, PB
Unfortunately, I had too much tea–so I still have some of it sitting in my fridge!
And this tea was something even the oats couldn’t save…
Dinner:
Bread, hummus, cucs, beans, egg, apple
All-nighter snack #1 [Nov 23 morning]
Breakfast:
With my orgo homework in the background! But I was actually working on commerce
Toast + butter, banana, egg, apple
Dinner:
Noodle salad + tofu + kidney beans
All-night snack #2:
I think that’s foccacia? I’m not sure what that type of bread is called…but it’s amazing with Herb&Garlic cream cheese.
+ chocolate chip cookie.
And exciting news [for me, that is]–I managed to get 7.5 hours of sleep yesterday! That’s almost 8 hours! Oh my god it felt so weird to sleep properly on a pillow and everything…[I have been sleeping on my bed...but I was half on my chair, and half on the mattress
]
Am going to the gym today…since I’m feeling so energetic. [That may or may not have something to do with the huge cup of tea I just chugged...]
Oatmeal #122: Microwave Apple Crumble October 1, 2008

Yesterday:
Made with my weapon of choice: the microwave!
- 0.25 cup oats mixed with some leftover cereal [Kellogg's Just Right]
- 1 apple
- lots of cinnamon
- dollop greek yogurt + jam [or honey/agave nectar/etc, or nothing!]
This literally took all of 5 minutes to put together. I microwaved for about…1.5 to 2 minutes then added yogurt + jam and it was done-zo and ready to be DEVOURED!
And I think I have finally hopped on the cooked apples train
Between-classes snack:
And finally–dinner!
Clockwise from top left: lots of spinach, 0.5 slice turkey loaf, chickpeas, kidney beans, and butternut squash lentils [which is amazing with cottage cheese]
And the rest of my dinner:
Yes–I eat a lot. The bowl of white stuff is vanilla yogurt + cottage cheese + applesauce + PB = EPICALLY delish combo that needs to be in your life NOW [if it isn't already...and if you're not lactose intolerant...
]
Okay, now that I have finished procrastinating, I should get back to my lab report [which is due TOMORROW...!!]!
Oatmeal #115: Ginger Tea September 25, 2008

Tuesday:
- oats, flax, walnuts, Muslix cereal
- water & milk
- 1 cooked gala apple
- 1 cup ginger tea
- 0.5 tsp ground ginger & cinnamon
I cooked the apples this time I’ve always wanted to try it! Turns out I didn’t cook it enough, but I was too lazy to use the microwave
The tea’s not very gingery…adding ground ginger helped a little, but not very much! Maybe I’ll add another 0.25 tsp next time!
It’s a short post today ’cause I have a bio quiz and chem lab to prepare for!
But here’s a question: apples — cooked or raw [or some other form!] –which do you like best with oatmeal?

Friday’s breakfast:
- oats, flax, walnuts, Kellogg’s JustRight cereal
- 1 gala apple
- 0.25 cup apple juice, water
- 2 tsp black sesame paste powder
![]()
This would have made an awesome cookie or muffin flavor! I have no words to describe this combo~
Anyway, this is a pretty short entry, so just for fun, I present to you…
My chem notes! This was after I solved the problem…and then I checked the answers and realized that I am a genius.
Later!

Yesterday’s breakfast:
Contents:
- oats, flax, walnuts
- water, milk
- 1 apple
- 1 tsp coconut
- 2 tsp black sesame paste powder
I got the instant kind…but I think what the paste actually is, is just ground sesame + water + sugar–very thick and awesome! Just two tsp in the oats gave me plenty of flavor–although the sweetness wasn’t noticeable, the apples took care of that problem, so it wasn’t a big deal!
You can’t see it in this picture, but the oats were kinda gray-ish ’cause of the hue of the sesame–it sounds gross, but as you can see from the picture, it’s not gray enough to actually be gross!
Post-run snack:
The gym doesn’t open til 9 a.m. on weekends! How frustrating. So I went out for a run instead
Anyway, in clockwise direction started from top left: mocha [nestle hot chocolate mix + instant columbian coffee + milk], fruit salad from the caf [I ate half the container before I snapped the pic
I wanted to save it for the oatmeal--but I was too hungry!], and almond crackers.
Dinner:
To the left: PB&J sandwich with cucumber and spinach. [there's PB on the outside of the top piece of bread 'cause I spread the jam on the wrong side of the bread!]
To the right: entree Greek salad I bought from the university center tuck shop. That was the first time I’ve ever tried feta cheese–not much flavor! I was disappointed. But the salad filled me up, so that was quite good
Got my stats class in an hour, and then my day is over and I can have dinner! Yay

Yesterday’s breakfast:
I guess in some way this is also Experiment #106 – No Cows – Part II, but whatevz!
Contents:
- oats, flax, walnuts, Muslix cereal
- cinnamon & vanilla extract
- 0.25 cup apple juice, water
- 1 granny smith apple
Like with the vitamin water–couldn’t really taste it! Maybe I need to add more juice–maybe I’ll do an experiment experiment on the ideal amount to add!
Anyway, still have lots of apple juice left–so it’s going to make several more appearances on the blog
Post-yoga snack:
Banana + PB!!!!!!!!!!! Nuff said
Post-lunch snack:
I had 2 of these–cafeteria lunch isn’t very filling…
Dessert/snack [can't remember if I had this before or after dinner]
Peach yogurt from bag lunch, with Muslix and a very tiny bit of flax on top.
More dessert:
The Luna bar! I’ve been wanting to try it all day, since I read about it on blogs so often–so I did! The picture only shows half, but I actually ate all of it
Today’s breakfast:
Felt kinda out of it this morning, and sat down to eat this:
…before I realized I forgot a lot of things!
There we go
Sorry for poor lighting and stuff!
Anyway, I was going to heat this up, but someone else was in the common room [where the microwave was] so I felt awkward going in and beeping their ears off at 5 a.m.
- oats, flax, Muslix, walnuts
- 1 banana
- 0.25 cup chocolate milk!!!
and 0.25 cup milk
I luv chocolate milk!
Off to dinner! Food blogs make me hungry.

Vacationing has lazied me! [so much that I can't be bothered to use proper verbs] Haven’t been blogging, haven’t been catching up with other blogs–roar.
Saturday
Oatmeal #98: Peppermint Tea
In yet another digging-through-the-pantry quest–I discovered a box of peppermint tea. Of course, I immediately thought: oatmeal + blogging = EATING ADVENTURES
Not much stuff in this one–I think we were out of fruits:
- oats
- water
- 2% milk
- brown sugar [sprinkled on top 'cause it was a last minute addition]
- walnuts
- ground almonds
- cinnamon
- 1 peppermint tea bag
Oats + peppermint tea + toast + margarine
I think this tea the only kind [that I've tried so far] where I can actually taste the flavor. Don’t remember if the peppermint came through in the oats–but I could tell there was tea in there
Post-something snack:
Could have been just a FEED ME snack for all I know
Don’t remember if I yoga-ed in the morning or in the evening~
Digest crackers dipped to sogginess in milk = favorite snack from since…at least high school?! This is the first time I’ve had this since I came home, so naturally I had to go back for another cracker and more milk
Sunday
Oatmeal #99: Smoothies – Part IV
Am going to use the blender as many times as I can before I leave for school!
This is possibly the simplest ingredients list you’re ever going to see on this blog:
- 0.5 cup quick oats
- 0.5 cup milk
- 0.5 cup water
- 0.5 Fiji apple
- 5 strawberries
Largest cup of smoothie I’ve made so far! Fruits really fills up space
Oh oh so I ran on the treadmill instead of going outside since it was raining. So after a 45 minute run and I was walking to cool down, the machine said I was close to 1000 calories, but I saw that there were only three digit slots for the calorie counting slot! So I got curious and decided to walk a little longer to reach 1000 just to see if the machine would explode or something
As you can see, nothing happened:
Not even a happy triumphant ditty or alarm bells or scientific notations or anything! What a cheap piece of crap!
Yesterday
Pile of mush
Cereal for breakfast!!!
Bran flakes, digest cracker, raw brownie, strawberries, milk & soy milk.
With raspberry mocha.
Post-yoga snack
Toast with blueberry yogurt spread on top
I have such a huge sweet tooth, it’s ridiculous.
Dessert
!!!!!!
Home-made glutinous rice balls! Courtesy of mom, of course
I stayed up just for this!
The other stuff: red beans + lotus seeds. I think I can die happy now~
Off to run in about half an hour!
