Can’t believe it took me this long to try this! I’ve been wanting to make this for a really long time, but:
1. Didn’t want to wait for the microwave
2. Didn’t want to wash the bowl I mix the batter in and the plate
But I was out of fruits that day, so I had to suck it up
- pumpkin, cinnamon, ground ginger, flax, milk, greek yogurt, walnuts
I got a billion things I haven’t done…including the commerce assignment that’s due today. D: I also have a stats final on Monday, Chem lab report, Bio lab report and quiz next Thursday, then another Commerce assignment due the day after?!
I’m going to need a lot of oatmeal [preferably infused with caffeine and brain cells] to get me through the next 1 month and 11 day.
On a fun note, I destroyed a piece of chem lab equipment yesterday morning! I feel so powerful…like Mohiner Suresh from Heroes…except without the scary part

Halloweeeeen!
I have no Halloween pumpkin, so this is my pumpkin ![]()
To be fair…there is pumpkin in the oatmeal!
- whole wheat bread “pumpkin”, Tomato pretz “stem”
- pumpkin, oats, flax, milk, cinnamon, ground ginger
- strawberries and walnuts for fun! :mrgeen:
I was going to use an english muffin instead, but the cafeteria had none of that so I had to improvise!
So glad Halloween’s on a Friday this year~
And today’s also my mom’s birthday!
Is anyone dressing up and going out this year??

Reverse dating!
October 12 [day before Thanksgiving!]
Oatmeal #126: Pumpkin Oatmeal Pie
- pumpkin, cinnamon, ground ginger, flax, milk
With toasty bread crust and vanilla yogurt icing.
I’m definitely addicted to eating oatmeal and sandwiches in general like this!
Dinner:
Mac n’ cheese–with turkey for Thanksgiving! I also threw in spinach, tomatoes, and an egg~
One of my ziplog boxes melted when I was making this
The tip was touching the hot part of the stove and it melted a hole right through!
Oct. 11
- cocoa, pumpkin, walnuts, flax, milk, cinnamon, almond pudding powder [?]
I can’t remember what else was in it ’cause this was a week ago
Dinner:
Okay first of all–imagine the above, but times three.
And the caf had salmon and chicken–so how can I not take advantage of that? Their lo mein noodle salad is also awesome -drool-
Dessert!
I bypassed this tray of warm, chocolatey fudge brownies that was just calling my name–so I grabbed some, along with a chocolate chip cookie and pineapples! Thanksgiving weekends at the caf are amazing!
Oct. 10
- Pumpkin, goji berries, flax, milk/yogurt [?], walnuts , cinnamon
A very attractive picture of my lunch, taken under the beautiful florescent lights of the lab:
Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, chickpeas, kidney beans, pumpkin, oregano, and an egg! It feels like I haven’t had Brussels sprouts in ages!
Dinner:
Top left: Cheerios, crackers, and PB with milk.
Bottom left: whole wheat bread, baba ghanoush and cucs
Bottom right: some sort of tomato clam chowder with lots of chickpeas and kidney beans.
Whoo hoo!
And argh–don’t know whether I should go to the gym today…since I am no where near done this assignment that’s due tomorrow

Don’t you love those?!
Oct. 6:
- pumpkin, Muslix cereal, cinnamon, milk, walnuts, flax
After-gym snack:
Banana, greek yogurt, brown rice–if I had some PB this would have been perfect.
Lunch:
Soup with rice, chickpeas, kidney beans, spinach, broccoli. Boringgg did not like
Oct. 7
- Granny Smith apple, walnuts, apple juice, pumpkin
Oct. 8
- Banana & PB!, black sesame, coconut, walnuts, flax, milk
Note the use of an actual bowl and using a cup like a cup is supposed to be used!
It was a glorious moment.
Dinner:
Vanilla [?] yogurt, cheerios, raw oats, huge loving splat of PB
Chili of some sort [vegetarian?], chickpeas, kidney beans, huge pile of broccoli. I think I went for seconds?
Oct. 9
- Lipton Apple Manor tea, pumpkin, Muslix cereal, walnuts, cinnamon, milk
The tea smells really good and tastes very cinnamon-y! It’s always awesome when I find tea that’s not bland tasting~
Lunch:
PB&B sandwich, broccoli, chickpeas, kidney beans, parmesan cheese.
That’s all I’m going to post for now ’cause I have a commerce assignment due in….10 hours?
Oatmeal #47: Chocolate Covered Veggies June 20, 2008

Wednesday’s breakfast:
Top right bowl: miso soup with frozen veggies
Top left: scrambled eggs, blueberries, strawberries, sunflower seeds
Bottom: vegan cornbread
Scrambled eggs doesn’t taste that great with strawberries
I think it’s ’cause of the sour taste~
Didn’t have oatmeal for breakfast ’cause I wanted to have it for lunch, and ’cause I wanted to try muesli!

pumpkin, peas, corn, potatoes, unsweetened cocoa, sugar, soy milk, yogurt, jam, wheat germ, peanuts
It looks/sounds crappy but it was awesome! [my labmates were rather skeptical as well, when I told them about it
Well I did warn them!] And it smelled so good and I was so excited to have it for lunch!
And I think I’m officially addicted to muesli! I’ve had oatmeal that was cooked and then cooked to a consistency of pudding, but it was nowhere as chewy as this was!
I think the problem with having oats for lunch is that I spend the whole morning craving them
So much that it was all I wanted for dinner:
Left bowl: peas, potatoes, yogurt, oatmeal, a bit of blueberry-cherry jam
Right bowl: carrots, brussel sprouts, potato, broccoli, salted soy nuts, Classico Red Wine & Herb sauce
Muesli for dinner! Couldn’t actually taste the jam, but that’s okay
The mixture actually tasted like sour cream & potatoes–which is my absolute favorite–so that was great!

Dad’s card:
I mailed it home on Wednesday…hope it gets there in time!
Anywhoo–Friday’s breakfast:
Oatmeal #42: Caffeinated Veggies

kiwi, carrots, corn, pumpkin, coffee powder, milk, sugar, wheat germ
![]()
Veggie oatmeal is the best! The taste of corn & carrots with kiwi is quite interesting–it’s a combo of sweet and sour…but more sweet and only a little sour ['cause of the kiwi]
Lunch
Scrambled egg with celery, mixed frozen veggies, rye bread, and blueberries. A piece of rye bread and cheddar cheese.
I love eggs~you can mix it with anything! Rather like oatmeal
Dinner
Even more veggies!
Except I added the potatoes this time ’cause they were starting to go bad :s I bought a whole bag of potatoes ’cause it was one dollar for one bag! How could I resist a deal like that?

Breakfast
Japanese breakfast
Since I like japanese food so much, I decided to have breakfast in japanese style–rice, fish, green tea, and miso soup! Of couse, I don’t have all the resources available to make it a traditional breakfast…like natto and pickled veggies…and I didn’t grill my fish ’cause I don’t have a grill!
I also used instant miso soup packets.
But yar anyway, it was really strange eating things like soup and fish for breakfast! I guess it’s a refreshing change from the sweet stuff I normally eat
And the rice tasted so good–I seasoned it with rice vinegar and some japanese rice seasoning~can’t wait to make it again!
Lunch
Scottish breakfast
Potato scones! Although I did alter the recipe slightly and opted for baking instead of pan frying ’cause my baking sheet is so much easier to wash than an oily pan!
Before baking:
After baking:
Guess the next time I use a recipe that calls for pan frying when I’m baking, I should add more flour! The scones were quite mushy even after I flipped them over and sprinkled more flour on them to bake~they were delicious though
But they tasted more like cake than scones!
I had two slices with peanut butter and jam, and on the side I had half a cup all-bran cereal with milk and chopped pears mixed in!
Dinner
Experiment #33: Veggie Oatmeal – Part II

Pumpkin, blueberry, zucchini, egg, walnuts, 1% milk, cinnamon, ground ginger, sugar
The bowl smelled predominantly of cinnamon–I find that once you add cinnamon to a dish, the smell covers everything else. Not that it’s a bad thing–but I never noticed it til now! And I didn’t even add that much cinnamon! Weird~
I’ve been looking forward to this all day, ’cause I don’t usually cook oatmeal on stove top, and if I do, I don’t throw in the fruits to cook! So that was kinda cool
Tried tons of new things today!

pumpkin, cocoa, sugar, bananas, walnuts, Kellogg’s All-Bran cereal
This is the combo I thougt of as I was lying in bed at 1: 30 ish a.m. trying to get back to sleep. I ended up getting up at 1: 44 and heading downstairs to create this…since I’d been lying in bed for about 2 hours~roar, I hate not being able to sleep…I probably got about 2 hours of sleep today…:(
But anyway! It was a good breakfast. Less sweet than what I normally go for, ’cause it only contained one sweet fruit instead of two, but still good! The bran cereal and walnuts made for nice crunchiness, and the pumpkin & banana made it feel like I was eating pudding! Crunchy pudding XD
So even though I was feeling a little crap-tastic due to not being able to sleep and the fact that my soy milk has gone bad despite the fact that the expiry date says “June 4″, the breakfast elevated my mood a little. Like I said–oatmeal is better than therapy!
Anywhoo, yesterday my friend and I had plans to go out for dinner, so I ate the rest of my leftover rice for lunch instead:
With the last of my bean sprouts!!!!!
So exciting!
Also contained shitake mushrooms, some black gel looking thing that I don’t know the name of [mom brought it over..it's some sort of veggie...??], chickpeas, kidney beans, black beans, romano beans, carrots, onions, brown&white rice, and four slices of raw tomatoes. The drink is a veggie soup with a very tiny bit of chicken bouillon added for flavor!
Dinner was awesome–my friend and I went to this vietnamese-thai restaurant that my mom and I discovered when walking back from the grocery store. I had the same beef noodles that I had last time–so good! And for dessert, we bought ice cream! I haven’t had that stuff in the longest time, so I was excited! I had the chocolate & strawberry flavor, she had a scoop of berries&vanilla, and a scoop of caramel & chocolate in a waffle cone. Nothing beats eating ice cream while walking!
I discovered a new favorite snack last Wednesday

blueberries, blueberries, walnuts, Kellogg’s All-Bran Original, 2% milk
Totally forgot I took this picture!
Anyway, I hadn’t had cereal with milk in a while since oatmeal has dominated my life [even more so than before!] so I decided to have some, but with berries & walnuts! I forgotten how much I lurve all-bran.
Breakfast all day, everyday!
Oh oh, and y’know how I publically declared my love for breakfast foods and I’d totally eat that stuff at every meal in this entry? Well I’m going to do it! Starting this Saturday, ’cause Friday is grocery shopping day
I’m going to aim for 5 days instead of one week ’cause there aren’t enough resources in Kingston and ’cause I don’t want to saturate my affinity for morning food
[Jenn, you were the one who dared me to do it! I dare you to do this dare with me! XD]

Eggs, corn, peaches, banana, 2% milk
Had this yesterday.
I bought peaches & bananas on Friday! I was so excited to have the two most awesomest fruits in the world in my house at the same time that I had to throw them in together in my oats XD
I’ve actually never had bananas with oatmeal before [I know! What the hell, right?]–so it was interesting
I think this fruit is made to go with oatmeal! Actually, I think bananas go well with anything–just like oatmeal goes well with everything! XD
Yesterday at lunch I tried a new sandwich filling:
Bean sprouts!
It was pretty good…although as much as I tried to prevent it from making the bread soggy by sandwiching it between the cheese and cucumbers…it wasn’t enough…it was a very messy, but tasty lunch!
Even more bean sprouts:

Veggies & beans with Classico Red Wine & Herb pasta sauce!
I’m almost done the bag my mom bought! I’ve been having bean sprouts every single day ’cause it’s a huge bag and wasting food is bad
I’m also well on my way to finishing the tomatoes–only 1.5 more to go! I don’t really like cooked tomatoes, so I ate them raw and boiled everything else.
And this morning I decided to continue working on the tub of pumpkin I still have left…’cause I’ve had this for at least a month now and I’m not really sure how long I can keep canned pumpkin for…

Strawberries, blueberries, 2% milk, pumpkin, sugar, walnuts
I used 1/2 cup of oats this morning ’cause 0.33 cup just isn’t enough! And I wanted to go for a run after I went to the lab at 7 a.m. so I decided to have a bigger breakfast
I think I’m going to use half a cup from now on!
My run today was good–haven’t ran in a while, so I started easy–20 minutes in total [split into four blocks of 5 minutes, with a one minute walking break in between] by the lake and then back home. I want to get back to running again so I’m going to aim for going at least twice a week! Hope I’ll be able to keep this up!
