One day late!
Meant to post yesterday–but didn’t feel like it
Cards for my parents! I realized yesterday morning, as I was drawing the card on the left, that I can only draw profiles…good thing I don’t plan on making a living off being an artist!
Anywhoo–oatmeal!
Oatmeal #140: Christmas Oatmeal
Playing with food at its finest XD
- glutinous rice balls, wheatberries, 0.25 of a small candy cane, sweet walnut soup, milk
Mom made the dough, but I rolled the rice balls myself! Took me an hour to finish rolling out the entire dough–but I’d rather be doing that than my homework!
Christmas eve ice wine:
In a chinese tea cup! My family is classy
Christmas dinner!
x 2
Buttered corn, stuffing, turkey + gravy, scallopped potatoes & yams, rice + gravy
Wish I could eat like this everyday!
Is anyone actually brave enough to go Boxing Day shopping? XD

The stock markets are giving me a headache! I have to write this paper for my commerce course telling them why I invested the way I did in some stock simulation game…and the truth is I have no clue…because I had no time during the semester to get a clue!
I’m trying to write the paper right now and I’m pretty sure my TA’s going to think I’m a total moron…
Nov 19
Oatmeal #135: Banana Bread Pancake
- 0.5 cup quick oats
- 0.33 cup water, 0.33 cup milk
- 0.75 tsp baking powder
- 1 mashed banana
- 1 tbsp walnuts
- 1 tbsp flax
- 0.25 tsp ground ginger, lots of cinnamon [optional]
- 1 tsp coconut [optional]
Stir! Microwave! 2 minutes!
First time I popped a banana in the microwave! I must say it’s not bad! Cooking bananas seem to enhance their taste and smell! <3 Definitely will be showing up again on my breakfast menu~

I’m going to try really really hard to finish my commerce paper tonight so I can start working on my chem lab…D: And my orgo final is next Wednesday! Followed by a Commerce final the next day! Seriously…do they want us to fail?!
3 weeks and 3 days til winter vacation–I’m counting on the glorious powers of oatmeal to get me through this!
Nutty Oats – Part III November 19, 2008

It just occurred to me how appropriate it is that I have a Nutty Oats series on the blog the same time of year that I’m about to go nuts from a combination of homesickness and stress…see how hilarious I am?
Nov 11
- pumpkin seeds, walnuts, milk, coconut, flax, banana
Ever since I came up with the microwave pancakes, I’ve been craving them like crazy! I’m thinking of doing a savory pancake for dinner sometime
Nov 15
- raisin granola, goji berries, longans, flax, milk, cocoa, walnuts
I haven’t had granola with oats for a while!
Dinner
Baba ghanoush, tomatoes, whole wheat english muffin, scrambled egg, kidney beans, chickpeas
Nov 16
No oats for breakfast!
English muffin with margarine, watermelon, and scrambled eggs.
Kinda refreshing to have a change from the usual routine! I think I’m going to try and have something different for breakfast once every week so I can have oatmeal at the cafeteria XD
Dinner:
Hummus, baba ghanoush, roasted red pepper sauce + bread, tuna, kidney beans, chickpeas, coffee
All-nighter snacks:
Fruits, pistachios, apple, and coffee.
Only my plan failed and I fell asleep…
Home stretch! Only one more week of classes left! When do you guys finish school for the holidays??

Nov 14
- walnuts, peanut butter, cocoa, flour, milk, flax, oats, microwave
Note: if you want ginormous pancakes–don’t use flour! And I only used 2 tbsp [and 0.25 + 2 tbsp oats], whereas if I used 2 tbsp of oats instead, I would have gotten more surface area and volume!
Nevertheless–still tasted good
Also, I only added a tiny bit of water this time ’cause I wanted to use up all the milk before it expired–not sure it made any difference in terms of flavor though!
Dinner:
Pumpkernickel, turkey, eggs, tomatoes, kidney beans
On another exciting note–my res was on fire! Not the whole building [because in that case I would be crying, not blogging], but apparently the washing machine was what set the alarm off?! It would have more made sense if the dryer caught on fire…but anyway the fire happened ’cause someone overloaded the machine…I have no words.
And I settled myself for a third all-nighter yesterday night, but it didn’t happen because I have no willpower
So I guess I’ll be paying for it tonight!
Off to class~

I highly do not remember the dates for these meals, so I’m just going to guess:
August 26
Lunch:
Congee with mushrooms, rice, celery, ginger, minced meat [pork?] and oysters! Dad made this–it was really good~
August 27
Lunch:
Heheh. Instant noodles. With chicken wings and veggies. I think this was a late lunch and that’s why we had a smaller meal?
Anyway, that doesn’t matter ’cause bubble tea followed as a snack!
It is tres awesome that mom knows how to make this stuff. Best bubble tea ever.
August 28
Oatmeal #102: Bubble Tea
There were leftover tapioca from bubble tea–so I put them to good use!
Amazing.
- Strawberries
- chocolate chips
- tapioca [2 tbsp?]
- 3 glutinous rice balls
- blanched almonds + walnuts
- 1 cup tea + 0.25 cup milk
- oats
Post-run snack:
I think I ran on the day I ate this, but I’m not sure? Either way–yams!
Lunch:
Mom made the round rice ball things, and we bought the dumplings from a store, but I was in charge of cooking everything
One last bowl of sweet walnut soup with glutinous rice balls for dessert at night:
OH MY GOD SEND ME HOME NOW.
August 29
Breakfast:
Oatmeal #103: Sweet Walnut Soup
Thank god for leftovers:
My breakfast on the morning of my flight to California. I didn’t have time to cook the oats, so I just dumped raw oats into the walnut soup and ate the rest of the leftover fruits for breakfast.
Anyway, the pictures that follow aren’t the complete set–the rest of the food pictures are on my friends’ cameras, and they haven’t uploaded the pictures yet–so food from the first 2 days [in Pasadena] aren’t here yet!
Check out the stuff that got me through 3 breakfasts + 1 lunch in Anaheim:
Had this for breakfast every morning–not the best thing for me, but better that than nothing?
Also, apparently I’m friends with people who don’t need to eat–therefore I pretty much subsisted on that stuff the entire day at Disneyland until dinner time. Ridiculous. [I had a good time nonetheless, but why do we have to skip food?!]
Bought a pomegranite paradise smoothie with a free daily vitamin boost [don't know whether this really is what it is--but given the nutritious meals I had during the day, I figured I had nothing to loose] from Jamba Juice that night, originally as my dinner, but then I realized I’d rather have real dinner food, so I had some form of soup [really salty, I had to dump over half a cup of water in the thing to tame it] , and saved the rest of my smoothie for breakfast the next day:
With a banana! I was so happy I could cry.
That stuff is really red…
Stolen hotel goods:
OH MY GOD REAL FOOD FOR LUNCH?!
I’m so glad I saved enough $$ for this. On the left, wild rice salad with chicken and veggies, in the middle–pasta salad, on the right–fruit salad. All for $4.99!
Dinner was airport food, but still a lot better than what I’ve been having in the past couple of days:
I had enough $$ to buy something to drink, so I got a tall sweetened ice coffee:
I had to keep going back to add more milk, since I like my coffee to be creamy
So I’m back in school now, and dad flew from BC to help me move stuff into my dorm. He stayed in this inn that offered free breakfast. So of course I was all over that–I mean, check this out:
And that’s just one part of it! [I was too self-conscious to take any more pictures
]
My breakfast this morning:
I went back for half a piece of pound cake and a bit more milk
Great stuff!
All caught up on meals! I think I still have some oatmeal pictures left on my home computer, but I’m not going to worry about those too much. Anyway, tomorrow’s breakfast is very exciting because I’ll be having oatmeal for the first time in 5 days! I think I’ll go to sleep early tonight so breakfast will arrive earlier

Vacationing has lazied me! [so much that I can't be bothered to use proper verbs] Haven’t been blogging, haven’t been catching up with other blogs–roar.
Saturday
Oatmeal #98: Peppermint Tea
In yet another digging-through-the-pantry quest–I discovered a box of peppermint tea. Of course, I immediately thought: oatmeal + blogging = EATING ADVENTURES
Not much stuff in this one–I think we were out of fruits:
- oats
- water
- 2% milk
- brown sugar [sprinkled on top 'cause it was a last minute addition]
- walnuts
- ground almonds
- cinnamon
- 1 peppermint tea bag
Oats + peppermint tea + toast + margarine
I think this tea the only kind [that I've tried so far] where I can actually taste the flavor. Don’t remember if the peppermint came through in the oats–but I could tell there was tea in there
Post-something snack:
Could have been just a FEED ME snack for all I know
Don’t remember if I yoga-ed in the morning or in the evening~
Digest crackers dipped to sogginess in milk = favorite snack from since…at least high school?! This is the first time I’ve had this since I came home, so naturally I had to go back for another cracker and more milk
Sunday
Oatmeal #99: Smoothies – Part IV
Am going to use the blender as many times as I can before I leave for school!
This is possibly the simplest ingredients list you’re ever going to see on this blog:
- 0.5 cup quick oats
- 0.5 cup milk
- 0.5 cup water
- 0.5 Fiji apple
- 5 strawberries
Largest cup of smoothie I’ve made so far! Fruits really fills up space
Oh oh so I ran on the treadmill instead of going outside since it was raining. So after a 45 minute run and I was walking to cool down, the machine said I was close to 1000 calories, but I saw that there were only three digit slots for the calorie counting slot! So I got curious and decided to walk a little longer to reach 1000 just to see if the machine would explode or something
As you can see, nothing happened:
Not even a happy triumphant ditty or alarm bells or scientific notations or anything! What a cheap piece of crap!
Yesterday
Pile of mush
Cereal for breakfast!!!
Bran flakes, digest cracker, raw brownie, strawberries, milk & soy milk.
With raspberry mocha.
Post-yoga snack
Toast with blueberry yogurt spread on top
I have such a huge sweet tooth, it’s ridiculous.
Dessert
!!!!!!
Home-made glutinous rice balls! Courtesy of mom, of course
I stayed up just for this!
The other stuff: red beans + lotus seeds. I think I can die happy now~
Off to run in about half an hour!

Friday:
Haven’t had muesli in a while–so I decided to have it! I was planning to have pancakes–but I got lazy
Contents:
- 1 container Silhouette 0% Peach yogurt
- oats
- 0.5 cup water
- ground almonds
- vanilla extract
- cinnamon
- bran flakes
- chocolate chips
- walnuts
- 0.5 huge Fiji apple
I soaked the first 6 ingredients overnight–the other stuff I added in the morning. Didn’t want any soggyness!
It was like apple cream pie–yum! This is a little sweeter than is normal for me–but the 0.5 cup water balanced out the yogurt, so it wasn’t sweet enough to rot my teeth or anything
I still like plain yogurt better though~
Oh, and check out this awesome coffee mom bought:
COOLEST COFFEE FILTER EVER, YEAH?! Japanese people have the craziest ideas~
It was after drinking this that I realize how much I dislike Colombian coffee…
Post-run snack:
Leftover fruits & a raw brownie.
Lunch:
A&W! Haven’t had this in ages!
Was a small burger, but my stomach was still full of fruits, so I ended up fine
CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS SUMMER’S ALMOST OVER?! If you’re in college/university, midterms are in less than 2 months!
Oatmeal #92: Smoothie August 17, 2008

Friday’s breakfast:
Smoothie with toast [margarine with cinnamon sprinkled on top]!
I know lots of people have done oatmeal smoothies before–but I haven’t! Therefore it’s obligatory that I give it a try–as we have a blender and everything! Damn, how did I live without this miraculous apparatus before?!
- 0.5 cup oats
- 0.5 cup soy milk
- 0.25 cup milk
- 0.25 cup water [i think??]
- 0.25 cup blueberries
- 0.25 cup corn [yeah...]
- 0.25 cup walnuts
- 1 tbsp raisins
Um yeah it’s a very random list of ingredients–but that’s ’cause we didn’t exactly have a ton of fruits and stuff around the house at the moment, I suppose I could have added more blueberries–but I didn’t want to use up the whole thing by myself
And I was originally planning to make a green walnut smoothie…but I was too lazy to wash the veggies, so I used corn and blueberries!
It was pretty good though! I ate the smoothie with a spoon since it seemed easier than sipping. Unfortunately, this breakfast wasn’t very filling
I miss the flax!
For some reason I was feeling tired that day [jet lag?], so I ended up going back to bed…to wake up at 3: 30…so I had to make my own lunch:
I hate washing vegetables
So there were only two types of veggies and three pieces of dumplings [<3] with shrimp egg noodles [basically just shrimp and wheat--not sure why they called it egg noodles...]
Dessert–MY VERY FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD [aside from oatmeal, of course]–yamssssss!
My favorite is the purple ones–so chewy and soft! Yams are amazing
The soup the yams are cooked in is basically just water, rock sugar, and ginger. SO. GOOD. I can chug this stuff down like oatmeal!
We’re having steak for dinner tonight–so excited! Haven’t had this stuff in so long!
[Oh man, I never want this vacation to end!]

Canada finally won a gold medal! I was getting worried!
Thursday’s breakfast:
I upgraded my apple pie oatmeal with chocolate [because chocolate always ups the awesome factor
] and actual almonds! The only thing that kept this from reaching pure perfection were the apples–not sweet enough!
I also cooked the apples this time [added with the milk after the oat-water mixture boils] so the pieces are a little softer, but not too soft–I definitely like it better this way!
Things I added: oats, water, soy milk, cinnamon, chocolate chips, almonds, walnuts, cashews, bran flakes, vanilla extract and half of a huge apple.
Must experiment with this some more!
Post-yoga snack:
The rest of my apple with PB! Unfortunately, we don’t have the all-natural kind in the house–so the PB was completely tasteless! I don’t even know how I could have liked this stuff before–guess I didn’t know how processed this stuff really was until I’ve tried the real stuff!
More gymnastics tonight! [I didn't realize there was no event scheduled for last night
] GO CHINA!

Vacation going awesome!
Lots of great food and goggling over crazy gymnasts flipping around on the TV [!] screen.
Anyway, Wednesday’s breakfast:
I found this granola bar while exploring the pantry [SO MUCH FOOD IN THERE] one day and have been excited to add this to my oats ever since! However, I was expecting it to be crunchy [well..the label saids "crunchy and chewy"!] but it wasn’t
I guess I mistaken it for the other kind we used to buy from Costco! But the bar was great–a little too sweet though.
List of stuff:
- 0.5 cup Quaker oats
- 0.75 cup water
- 0.25 cup soy milk
- 1 tsp almond powder [it's used to make this almond drink]
- bit of almond extract
- two handfuls blueberries
- 1 tbsp cashews
- 1 tbsp walnuts
Couldn’t really taste the almond–but I could definitely smell it!
Lunch:
Congee! I guess it’s kinda like risotto, except without butter and parmesan…and probably without broth as well?
But it was great–haven’t had mom’s congee in ages! Too bad I fell asleep after my run and when I woke up there was like…this tiny bit at the bottom of the pot!
Dessert–expensive stuff! [Love it when parents spoil me
]
The coconut milk was too coconutty though–so I diluted it with water. Mom made this again [we had a huge bag of this stuff] yesterday with almond paste–AWESOME. If it wasn’t near bed time I would have eaten the whole pot
Can’t wait to watch more gymnastics tonight!
