Garlic Toast!

+ almonds & peanuts

And oatmeal smoothie! Except I was running low so the whole thing probably contains 10% oatmeal.

  • oatmeal, coffee, cottage cheese, milk, rice milk, cinnamon, banana, frozen berries

It’s like a fruity, chewy latte

I also baked a green tea cake:

I haven’t baked in a while! But I’m glad it turned out well–could have been a bit more moist though…maybe more milk and/or less oven-ing next time.

…because the orgo midterm was a disaster.

Oct 18

  • goji berries, longans, coconut, Muslix cereal, walnuts, milk, flax, cinnamon

The as usual!

Strawberry yogurt mixed with Greek yogurt, kashi, peanut butter.

I love weekend lunches ’cause that means I get to binge on Greek yogurt!!

Pumpernickel with baba ghanoush and cucs.

Crackers with baba ghanoush.
Tofu, tomatoes, tons of chickpeas, and potato salad with veggies and capers. This was the first time I’ve ever tried them–sad to say I don’t really like them!

Cookie with honeydew.

Oct 19

  • Banana, peanut butter, walnuts, flax, milk

Not sure what else was in this! I have a feeling it may be cinnamon though…since I add it to everything 😛

Hummus sandwich with tomatoes, tofu, egg, and cucs. Along with an apple.

Oct 20

A very fruity breakfast:

Even my tea was flavored with fruits! It’s basically green tea flavored with pineapple, orange, and passionfruit–was really good! I could taste it 😀

  • grapes, peach, cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, milk, flax, walnuts

For some reason…I didn’t really like watermelon, cataloupe, and honeydew in my oatmeal…maybe ’cause they weren’t sweet enough? It was kinda bland :\

Oh, and check out what I got in the mail yesterday:

SO.MUCH.FOOD. [except for the stuff that’s obviously not food]

My parents are awesome 😀 But I love how they delivered my package in their Thanksgiving turkey box to remind me that they had a feast and I had caf food 😛

Reverse dating!

October 12 [day before Thanksgiving!]

Oatmeal #126: Pumpkin Oatmeal Pie

  • pumpkin, cinnamon, ground ginger, flax, milk

With toasty bread crust and vanilla yogurt icing. 😀 I’m definitely addicted to eating oatmeal and sandwiches in general like this!

Mac n’ cheese–with turkey for Thanksgiving! I also threw in spinach, tomatoes, and an egg~

One of my ziplog boxes melted when I was making this 👿 The tip was touching the hot part of the stove and it melted a hole right through!

Oct. 11

  • cocoa, pumpkin, walnuts, flax, milk, cinnamon, almond pudding powder [?]

I can’t remember what else was in it ’cause this was a week ago 😛

Okay first of all–imagine the above, but times three. 😀

And the caf had salmon and chicken–so how can I not take advantage of that? Their lo mein noodle salad is also awesome -drool-

I bypassed this tray of warm, chocolatey fudge brownies that was just calling my name–so I grabbed some, along with a chocolate chip cookie and pineapples! Thanksgiving weekends at the caf are amazing!

Oct. 10

  • Pumpkin, goji berries, flax, milk/yogurt [?], walnuts , cinnamon

A very attractive picture of my lunch, taken under the beautiful florescent lights of the lab:

Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, chickpeas, kidney beans, pumpkin, oregano, and an egg! It feels like I haven’t had Brussels sprouts in ages!

Top left: Cheerios, crackers, and PB with milk.

Bottom left: whole wheat bread, baba ghanoush and cucs

Bottom right: some sort of tomato clam chowder with lots of chickpeas and kidney beans.

Whoo hoo!

And argh–don’t know whether I should go to the gym today…since I am no where near done this assignment that’s due tomorrow 😛

Yesterday’s breakfast:

I guess in some way this is also Experiment #106 – No Cows – Part II, but whatevz!

  • oats, flax, walnuts, Muslix cereal
  • cinnamon & vanilla extract
  • 0.25 cup apple juice, water
  • 1 granny smith apple

Like with the vitamin water–couldn’t really taste it! Maybe I need to add more juice–maybe I’ll do an experiment experiment on the ideal amount to add!

Anyway, still have lots of apple juice left–so it’s going to make several more appearances on the blog 😀

Post-yoga snack:

Banana + PB!!!!!!!!!!! Nuff said 😀

Post-lunch snack:

snack-sep9_08 (1)

I had 2 of these–cafeteria lunch isn’t very filling…

Dessert/snack [can’t remember if I had this before or after dinner]

Peach yogurt from bag lunch, with Muslix and a very tiny bit of flax on top.

More dessert:

dessert-sep9_08 (1)

The Luna bar! I’ve been wanting to try it all day, since I read about it on blogs so often–so I did! The picture only shows half, but I actually ate all of it 😀

Today’s breakfast:

Felt kinda out of it this morning, and sat down to eat this:

…before I realized I forgot a lot of things!

oatmeal-sep10_08 (1)

There we go 😀

Sorry for poor lighting and stuff!

Anyway, I was going to heat this up, but someone else was in the common room [where the microwave was] so I felt awkward going in and beeping their ears off at 5 a.m. 😛

  • oats, flax, Muslix, walnuts
  • 1 banana
  • 0.25 cup chocolate milk!!! 😀 and 0.25 cup milk

I luv chocolate milk!

Off to dinner! Food blogs make me hungry.

Meant to get this up yesterday night, but I was busying have mini-spaz sessions about organic chem and imminent lab reports 😛

Yesterday’s breakfast:

oatmeal-sep8_08 (1)

There was a huge sidewalk sale at my school on Friday, and this one stand was giving out free Vitamin Water–and my dad got me a bottle to try–I got the dragonfruit flavor. Anyway, forgot to take a picture of it, but it’s pink-ish and doesn’t have that medicine smell…but the smell was still weird…just from that alone, you’d never have guessed the drink was supposed to be sweet!

Anyway, to make a long story short, that’s what went into my muesli yesterday instead of milk! [hence the title?]

I didn’t use the whole bottle…just half–I drank half of it the first day ’cause I had a sore throat and didn’t bring enough water!

Capped off my breakfast with a huge thing of iced coffee [half a cup of tall iced caffe Americano from Starbucks–bought it Sunday but never drank it]–which I couldn’t finish. Heh.

Post-gym snack/pre-first class snack:

Vanilla yogurt “stolen” from the free breakfast thing at the inn dad stayed in! I got this on Friday, so I figured I should eat it ASAP since my fridge was getting cluttered!

I also threw in half a banana and some mixed nuts [salted–dad bought the bag…but ended up giving it to me] on top!

Oh, and yesterday was the first time I’ve ever used the gym at school–I tripped about a billion times on the treadmill! What gives?!

Lunch/post-class meal:

Finally sat down to eat after my Memory and organic chem lectures.

The leftover side: egg from the inn, english muffin [from the caf–heh], spinach & mushrooms [from yesterday’s salad]

The right side: banana [from the morning], PB [from the inn], english muffin, spoon [from the shop at school]

Along with coffee from the morning.

Also ate a small plum and more nuts afterwards~

What I’m going to call a sandwich salad:

Right: before – a nice, normal sandwich [it was spared…for the picture]

Left: after – chainsaw massacre [or maybe plastic knife massacre?]

The sandwich and salad were included as a part of the bag lunch I got from the caf~they always put too much meat in one sandwich, so I decided to throw them both together 😀

Salad: lettuce, tomato slice [heh there was literally one slice], cucumber, carrots, wheat bread, turkey, Granny Smith apple

My don [or residence admin person] came around everyone’s door to ask about our first day of classes and she had candy!

How do you say no to free candy??

Warm Up September 7, 2008

Warming up for the recommencement of the next slew of oatmeal experiments [and school…-sigh-] with a nice, comforting bowl of microwaved banana oatmeal:

oatmeal-sep7_08 (1)

Double-yay for being able to do this without explosions! 😀

  • oats, water, milk
  • banana
  • flax, walnuts, Muslix cereal [0.25 small box]
  • cinnamon & vanilla extract

Rated O for OMGSOGOOD!

The drink on the side, by the way–apple juice [dad’s leftovers] + green tea–which ended up tasting kinda gross, so I force-chugged the first half, then dumped the second half into my oats–which magically always makes gross stuff taste better 😀

No picture of lunch ’cause I ate in the cafeteria, but I had a huge bowl of vanilla yogurt + cheerios, milk, and a piece of PB toast. Then later I had a lot of peanuts :d

Post-grocery shopping snack:

I ate 3 pieces before I remembered to take a picture:

I walked for 1 hour 30 minutes to buy Clif & LunaZ bars ’cause they were on sale–4 for $5! About 44 cents cheaper! I only bought 5 bars though–’cause they were still pretty expensive, being what they are!

The caf closes on Sunday nights, but luckily we’re able to use meal equivalencies to buy food!

I actually stole the whole wheat english muffin from the cafeteria at lunch today 😛 But I bought the salad!

After one bite of the muffin, I decided to break the bread up and eat it all jumbled up together instead–much easier!

 dinner-sep7_08 (1)

Of course, there’s no way anyone’d be full on that, so I ate the other [bigger] bowl of salad I bought:

 dinner-sep7_08 (2)

Chicken breast, mushrooms, spinach, mandarin oranges, sun-dried tomatoes, chile peppers, and red onions. I didn’t eat the peppers or the onions 😛 The salad came with a blue cheese dressing as well, but I didn’t eat much of it–not really a dressing person! [although I saved it anyway–possible oatmeal experiment?]

I ate pretty much all of the salad, but I saved a few spinach leaves and mushroom slices to go with the other stolen english muffin as a part of tomorrow’s lunch! 😀 Planning ahead–it’s what I do!

And no day is ever complete without dessert!

Mom’s green tea cake–the last three pieces [I ate 4 or 5 pieces yesterday–oops?] , and I ate them all! I figured–no time like the present! I looked at it as the last chance for indulgence before all the organic chem, bio, and exams nightmare begins!

Anyway~off to floor meeting–don’t wanna be late!

Non-Oatmeal Stuff #12: Vacation Post September 6, 2008

I highly do not remember the dates for these meals, so I’m just going to guess:

August 26

Congee with mushrooms, rice, celery, ginger, minced meat [pork?] and oysters! Dad made this–it was really good~

August 27

Heheh. Instant noodles. With chicken wings and veggies. I think this was a late lunch and that’s why we had a smaller meal?

Anyway, that doesn’t matter ’cause bubble tea followed as a snack!

It is tres awesome that mom knows how to make this stuff. Best bubble tea ever.

August 28

Oatmeal #102: Bubble Tea

There were leftover tapioca from bubble tea–so I put them to good use!

 oatmeal-aug28_08 (1)

  • Strawberries
  • chocolate chips
  • tapioca [2 tbsp?]
  • 3 glutinous rice balls
  • blanched almonds + walnuts
  • 1 cup tea + 0.25 cup milk
  • oats

Post-run snack:

I think I ran on the day I ate this, but I’m not sure? Either way–yams!

Mom made the round rice ball things, and we bought the dumplings from a store, but I was in charge of cooking everything 😀

One last bowl of sweet walnut soup with glutinous rice balls for dessert at night:

August 29

Oatmeal #103: Sweet Walnut Soup

Thank god for leftovers:

My breakfast on the morning of my flight to California. I didn’t have time to cook the oats, so I just dumped raw oats into the walnut soup and ate the rest of the leftover fruits for breakfast.

Anyway, the pictures that follow aren’t the complete set–the rest of the food pictures are on my friends’ cameras, and they haven’t uploaded the pictures yet–so food from the first 2 days [in Pasadena] aren’t here yet!

Check out the stuff that got me through 3 breakfasts + 1 lunch in Anaheim:

Had this for breakfast every morning–not the best thing for me, but better that than nothing?

Also, apparently I’m friends with people who don’t need to eat–therefore I pretty much subsisted on that stuff the entire day at Disneyland until dinner time. Ridiculous. [I had a good time nonetheless, but why do we have to skip food?!]

Bought a pomegranite paradise smoothie with a free daily vitamin boost [don’t know whether this really is what it is–but given the nutritious meals I had during the day, I figured I had nothing to loose] from Jamba Juice that night, originally as my dinner, but then I realized I’d rather have real dinner food, so I had some form of soup [really salty, I had to dump over half a cup of water in the thing to tame it] , and saved the rest of my smoothie for breakfast the next day:

With a banana! I was so happy I could cry.

 bkfast-sep3_08 (1)

That stuff is really red…

Stolen hotel goods:

I’m so glad I saved enough $$ for this. On the left, wild rice salad with chicken and veggies, in the middle–pasta salad, on the right–fruit salad. All for $4.99!

Dinner was airport food, but still a lot better than what I’ve been having in the past couple of days:

I had enough $$ to buy something to drink, so I got a tall sweetened ice coffee:

 dinner-sep3_08 (1)

I had to keep going back to add more milk, since I like my coffee to be creamy 😀

So I’m back in school now, and dad flew from BC to help me move stuff into my dorm. He stayed in this inn that offered free breakfast. So of course I was all over that–I mean, check this out:

And that’s just one part of it! [I was too self-conscious to take any more pictures 😛 ]

My breakfast this morning:

I went back for half a piece of pound cake and a bit more milk 😀 Great stuff!

All caught up on meals! I think I still have some oatmeal pictures left on my home computer, but I’m not going to worry about those too much. Anyway, tomorrow’s breakfast is very exciting because I’ll be having oatmeal for the first time in 5 days! I think I’ll go to sleep early tonight so breakfast will arrive earlier 😀

Vacationing has lazied me! [so much that I can’t be bothered to use proper verbs]  Haven’t been blogging, haven’t been catching up with other blogs–roar.

Oatmeal #98: Peppermint Tea

oatmeal-aug23_08 (1)

In yet another digging-through-the-pantry quest–I discovered a box of peppermint tea. Of course, I immediately thought: oatmeal + blogging = EATING ADVENTURES 😀

Not much stuff in this one–I think we were out of fruits:

  • oats
  • water
  • 2% milk
  • brown sugar [sprinkled on top ’cause it was a last minute addition]
  • walnuts
  • ground almonds
  • cinnamon
  • 1 peppermint tea bag

Oats + peppermint tea + toast + margarine

I think this tea the only kind [that I’ve tried so far] where I can actually taste the flavor. Don’t remember if the peppermint came through in the oats–but I could tell there was tea in there 😛

Post-something snack:

Could have been just a FEED ME snack for all I know 😛 Don’t remember if I yoga-ed in the morning or in the evening~

Digest crackers dipped to sogginess in milk = favorite snack from since…at least high school?! This is the first time I’ve had this since I came home, so naturally I had to go back for another cracker and more milk 😀

Oatmeal #99: Smoothies – Part IV

Am going to use the blender as many times as I can before I leave for school!

This is possibly the simplest ingredients list you’re ever going to see on this blog:

  • 0.5 cup quick oats
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.5 Fiji apple
  • 5 strawberries

 oatmeal-aug24_08 (1)

Largest cup of smoothie I’ve made so far! Fruits really fills up space 😀

Oh oh so I ran on the treadmill instead of going outside since it was raining. So after a 45 minute run and I was walking to cool down, the machine said I was close to 1000 calories, but I saw that there were only three digit slots for the calorie counting slot! So I got curious and decided to walk a little longer to reach 1000 just to see if the machine would explode or something

As you can see, nothing happened:

Not even a happy triumphant ditty or alarm bells or scientific notations or anything! What a cheap piece of crap!

Pile of mush

Cereal for breakfast!!!

Bran flakes, digest cracker, raw brownie, strawberries, milk & soy milk.

With raspberry mocha.

Post-yoga snack

Toast with blueberry yogurt spread on top 😀 I have such a huge sweet tooth, it’s ridiculous.

Home-made glutinous rice balls! Courtesy of mom, of course 😀 I stayed up just for this!

The other stuff: red beans + lotus seeds. I think I can die happy now~

Off to run in about half an hour!

Oatmeal #92: Smoothie August 17, 2008

Friday’s breakfast:

Smoothie with toast [margarine with cinnamon sprinkled on top]!
I know lots of people have done oatmeal smoothies before–but I haven’t! Therefore it’s obligatory that I give it a try–as we have a blender and everything! Damn, how did I live without this miraculous apparatus before?!

  • 0.5 cup oats
  • 0.5 cup soy milk
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 0.25 cup water [i think??]
  • 0.25 cup blueberries
  • 0.25 cup corn [yeah…]
  • 0.25 cup walnuts
  • 1 tbsp raisins

Um yeah it’s a very random list of ingredients–but that’s ’cause we didn’t exactly have a ton of fruits and stuff around the house at the moment, I suppose I could have added more blueberries–but I didn’t want to use up the whole thing by myself 😛 And I was originally planning to make a green walnut smoothie…but I was too lazy to wash the veggies, so I used corn and blueberries!

oatmeal-aug15_08 (1)

It was pretty good though! I ate the smoothie with a spoon since it seemed easier than sipping. Unfortunately, this breakfast wasn’t very filling 😦 I miss the flax!

For some reason I was feeling tired that day [jet lag?], so I ended up going back to bed…to wake up at 3: 30…so I had to make my own lunch:

I hate washing vegetables 😛 So there were only two types of veggies and three pieces of dumplings [] with shrimp egg noodles [basically just shrimp and wheat–not sure why they called it egg noodles…]

Dessert–MY VERY FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD [aside from oatmeal, of course]–yamssssss!

My favorite is the purple ones–so chewy and soft! Yams are amazing 😀

The soup the yams are cooked in is basically just water, rock sugar, and ginger. SO. GOOD. I can chug this stuff down like oatmeal!

We’re having steak for dinner tonight–so excited! Haven’t had this stuff in so long! 😀 [Oh man, I never want this vacation to end!]

Oatmeal #90 : Nutty August 15, 2008

Vacation going awesome! 😀 Lots of great food and goggling over crazy gymnasts flipping around on the TV [!] screen.

Anyway, Wednesday’s breakfast:

oatmeal-aug13_08 (1)

I found this granola bar while exploring the pantry [SO MUCH FOOD IN THERE] one day and have been excited to add this to my oats ever since! However, I was expecting it to be crunchy [well..the label saids "crunchy and chewy"!] but it wasn’t 😦 I guess I mistaken it for the other kind we used to buy from Costco! But the bar was great–a little too sweet though.

List of stuff:

  • 0.5 cup Quaker oats
  • 0.75 cup water
  • 0.25 cup soy milk
  • 1 tsp almond powder [it’s used to make this almond drink]
  • bit of almond extract
  • two handfuls blueberries
  • 1 tbsp cashews
  • 1 tbsp walnuts
  • 0.5 Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Peanut Bar [but I ended up eating the other half after 😛 ]

Couldn’t really taste the almond–but I could definitely smell it! 😀

Congee! I guess it’s kinda like risotto, except without butter and parmesan…and probably without broth as well? 😛 But it was great–haven’t had mom’s congee in ages! Too bad I fell asleep after my run and when I woke up there was like…this tiny bit at the bottom of the pot! 👿

Dessert–expensive stuff! [Love it when parents spoil me 😀 ]

The coconut milk was too coconutty though–so I diluted it with water. Mom made this again [we had a huge bag of this stuff] yesterday with almond paste–AWESOME. If it wasn’t near bed time I would have eaten the whole pot 😀

Can’t wait to watch more gymnastics tonight!
