Roasted Chickpeas October 1, 2009

Posted by oatmeal in Recipes, Snack.

It’s cheap, easy to make, and AWESOME 😀 Best. Study. Snacks. Ever. So crunchy and nutty and -drool-

I made these over the past weekend while all my housemates were out of town and I had the whole kitchen to myself–so instead of studying, I made a ton of stuff!

1 can chickpeas
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
dill weed and black pepper [as much as you want]

Preheat oven to 450F.
Mix everything together
Bake until they turn brown [30-40 minutes]

Mine turned out chewier than I wanted ’cause I thought they were getting burned so I didn’t want to leave them in there any longer!
And I only used half a can ’cause I only had one can of chickpeas and I really wanted to make hummus as well:

The hummus didn’t turn out that great though…not enough flavor to be used as a dip…I think I’ll add some parmesan cheese to it next time.

Oatmeal #127: Almond Milk September 20, 2009

[Nooooo firefox quit on me just as I was finishing my post!]

Monday – first breakfast of the school year!

  • 1/4 cup oatmeal
  • 1 gala apple
  • cinnamon & ground ginger
  • ~1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup almond milk ❗

I know this almond milk thing has been going on for a while now, but I’ve been missing out due to my overwhelming unwillingness to spend money! So imagine my joy when I saw that this stuff was on sale for $2.00 a carton at Loblaws!

I bought 4 cartons [2 original, 2 vanilla] and have already finished one! The original one has a milder taste than I expected and the almond flavor isn’t very prominent. But it smells like rice milk and it wasn’t too sweet–so I really like it! The vanilla one was wayyy too sweet to drink by itself, though. But it serves a double function as creme and sweetener in my coffee–so it’s all good! 😀

With the milk:

I think I’ll probably need to add the vanilla flavor if I actually want to taste the milk with the oats~

Going back to Sunday’s lunch:

Quaker’s Tomato & Basil rice cakes, soup, veggies & ground turkey with worcestershire and black pepper

I’m addicted to rice crackers! SO GOOD!

Going forward to Monday!

Whole wheat bread + cheese + chicken breast, banana, peach yogurt & fiber1 cereal.

Not sure if I tried it that day or if it was later in the week, but I ate the banana with my ham & cheese. And it wasn’t gross at all! Although instead of the flavors mixing together in my mouth, the banana flavor stood out by itself and the ham & cheese was by itself–weird!

Ground turkey, baby carrots, corn, black beans, mushrooms, onions with parmesan cheese, and soup on the side.

I like saving the boiled water from my cooking and then adding some chicken bouillon to make soup! Saves me from having to dump the water out at the end!

More food to come! Am so behind on this blogging thing–just like how I’m already behind in my school work! 😥

Argh can’t believe school starts tomorrow! Not looking forward to this at all…

Yesterday’s lunch, part one:

lunch - sep 12 09

Whole wheat bread with turkey breast and cheese, along with Campbell’s Red Lentils & Vegetable soup [with black beans added to it]

Lunch part two:

Peach yogurt with Fiber1 cereal! I ate it straight out of the 650mL container 😛
I’ve seen this type of cereal on so many blogs and wanted to try it–but it’s always so expensive! But this summer it finally went on sale and so I bought some~it is very fiber-y!

With mushrooms, baby carrots, onions, and ground turkey.
I was going to make tomato sauce, but people from Bell messed up and we were stuck waiting for them to come back to fix the problem so there was no time to go grocery shopping! 😦 So for “sauce”, I just used:

– 1 tsp worchestershire
– ~1/4 tsp chicken bouillon
– oregano
– pepper

And it turned out pretty nicely so yay! But I still want tomatoes so I can make sauce and chilli! My life is so exciting!

School! September 12, 2009

Heh–does anyone still read this?
Seems like I loose interest in food blogging when I’m not cooking for myself, but since this school year I will be making my own food [like last summer!!], I’ll start taking pictures again! In fact, here’s my breakfast from this morning:

Photo taken in the kitchen of my new house/apartment! Holy crap!

1/3 cup oatmeal
1/4 cup milk & vanilla soy milk
1 Golden Delicious apple
~1/2 tsp raw sugar
cinnamon, ground ginger

Going grocery shopping [again]–possibly with my housemate–later today. More food porn to come!

Pseudo-post April 12, 2009

This is a procrastination post–probably not a good time to do it since my anatomy final is tomorrow…
2 weeks and 1 day til I get to go home! Can’t wait to start eating exciting oatmeal again, yo~ I’ve been having PB & B & cocoa oatmeal every single day–not that there’s anything wrong with this, but remember when I used to have strawberries every now and then? Yeah.

Cereal, banana, PB, yogurt

This picture is from a few months ago! The cafeteria don’t serve greek yogurt no more 😦

It seems like I’ve been really behind in all of your blogs! But this will end once exams are over~whee~
In the mean time: your summer plans! What are they?

Be back…soon! April 6, 2009

Whoa haha can’t believe comments were still coming in during March! 😀

Anywhoo, my old laptop has officially passed on [4-5 years old, I think!], so I’m using a rented one.

Posting will resume once end of April hits!
Good luck with exams and whatever else dudes!

My laptop crashed on Monday! 😦

Therefore no entries until it’s fixed.

On the other hand–I now kinda know what I want to do with my life, so yay!

Question: What do you want to do with your life?

Food photographer wannabe January 23, 2009

It’s awesome how I’m developing a new hobby now in the middle of the busiest school year ever.

Jan 19

  • pancake: quick & rolled oats, semi-sweet chocolate chips, banana, cinnamon, ground ginger, coffee powder, flax, cream cheese

Ta da!

I added milk in my coffee–but the milk wasn’t properly mixed 😛

I wish I had more colorful spoons and plates and whatnot! That’s something I look forward to once I graduate and find a job [hopefully!]

Jan 18

Strawberries!! ❤

Strawberries + chocolate = even better!

I like how this turned out! Although the sandwich could have been placed a little more to the center…oh well!

I’m getting worse and worse at updating!

Jan 12

  • oatmeal, peanut butter, banana, flax, cinnamon, coffee, ground ginger, milk

I haven’t been very creative with my oatmeal ingredients lately–so I thought I’d get creative with the food presentation! Food photography is quickly becoming my way of procrastinating 😛 That and watching pokemon!

Jan 17 – dinner:

Noodle salad + lime dressing

Bought it from the tuck shop! Noodle salads are the best! Really fills my craving for noodles and asian food ❤

Jan 18:

Whole wheat bread + cream cheese

One big difference this semester: I no longer eat oatmeal everyday! It is so weird…but I washing a plate of bread crumbs is easier than washing a bowl with oatmeal bits stuck in it~

Off to watch some more pokemon! [No, I actually don’t have time to watch TV–but I do it anyway because I’m secretly masochistic  ]

I have not been able to put my camera down ever since I discovered how the closeup shots work!

Jan 7

 Microwaved pancake!

First pancake of the year!

  • oatmeal (mix of quick oats & organic rolled oats), unsweetened coconut, peanut butter, milk, cinnamon, ground ginger, flax

+ huge Fuji apple.

I wanted to toss the apple in the pancake–but I only had a plastic knife and those aren’t very good at apple cutting–too bad–because cooked apples go really well with pancakes! I’m so tempted to go and buy a real knife…

Jan 8 breakfast:

Mini blueberry bran muffins–nicked from the caf!

+ 1 egg

I’m really digging having muffins for breakfast! But it feels weird not to eat oatmeal everyday–have gotten so used to it ever since I started this blog!

Jan 9 dinner:

Why can’t I be addicted to studying instead of random things like taking pictures of food?!!?
