After two years of camera ownage, I have finally discovered how to take closeups!

Yesterday:

Here’s another one:

Whoooo!

  • black glutinous rice, chopped almonds, banana, milk, quick oats

+ rice milk + milk mixed together

So good! The black rice is chewy and a little sweet–like a blend of wheatberries + normal rice!

And I think I’m going to chop up my almonds from now on–they last longer this way! ๐Ÿ˜›

In the pot: Fish balls + tofu + shitake mushrooms + some abalone-looking mushroom

We dip this stuff in a mix of raw eggs, soy sauce, and satay sauce! โค

I’m going to miss this at school ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I think she sprinkled some brown sugar on top–so they were extra sweet! The yellow ones are soooo awesome. Yams & sweet potatoes > potatoes any day!

Yesterday:

Double post today to speed things along so I can move onto this week!

  • 0.25 cup oats
  • 0.25 cup cooked brown rice
  • 0.75 cup water
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 1 slice cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cup spinach
  • 0.25 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp parmesan or salt or 0.125 of a bouillon cube << otherwise there’s no flavor!
  • 1 tbsp flax
  • 1 tbsp walnuts

Mix everything together. Microwave [or cook on stovetop if you’re not lazy ๐Ÿ˜€ ] for 2 minutes–ADD LOTS OF WATER–because I didn’t and explosion occurred. It was trรจs sad.

Need to put more veggies next time! ‘Cause I was not full on this thing~maybe get a bigger bowl or something, ’cause I’m capable of eating epic proportions of vegetables ๐Ÿ˜›

Saturday:

  • oats, flax, walnuts, milk
  • 0.25 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1 cup green tea + 0.25 tsp matcha powder
  • goji berries
  • dried dates
  • longans

My mom sometimes uses those ingredients [excluding everything in the first row, of course ๐Ÿ˜› ] when she makes soup–hence the entry title ๐Ÿ˜€

They really sweeten everything up–I was pleasantly surprised ๐Ÿ˜€

I added some matcha powder ’cause I know green tea has a very mild flavor, and the powder really did help–great aftertaste!

I think I’m getting better at sneakily taking pictures in the caf! :mrgreen: I found a great spot [not by the window, unfortunately–hence crap lighting] that has relatively few people sitting around so I can whip out le camera without feeling too self-conscious ๐Ÿ˜›

[This was my second bowl of yogurt by the way–they had greek yogurt–how can I stay away?!]

Was huge.

I took too much peanut butter, that plus two bowls of spinach were really filling!

But dinner was good–even though I prefer going to the other caf for meals [but that one’s closed on the weekends so I have no choice ๐Ÿ˜› ] I do like this caf for their booths though! Makes picture taking easier! [Hence why you don’t ever see caf pictures on the weekdays!]

And aaah I really need to catch up on posts ’cause this week has already started and I haven’t finished posting pictures from last week! I’m excited for this week’s theme ๐Ÿ˜€

I highly do not remember the dates for these meals, so I’m just going to guess:

August 26

Congee with mushrooms, rice, celery, ginger, minced meat [pork?] and oysters! Dad made this–it was really good~

August 27

Heheh. Instant noodles. With chicken wings and veggies. I think this was a late lunch and that’s why we had a smaller meal?

Anyway, that doesn’t matter ’cause bubble tea followed as a snack!

August 28

Oatmeal #102: Bubble Tea

There were leftover tapioca from bubble tea–so I put them to good use! :mrgreen:

Oatmeal #103: Sweet Walnut Soup

My breakfast on the morning of my flight to California. I didn’t have time to cook the oats, so I just dumped raw oats into the walnut soup and ate the rest of the leftover fruits for breakfast. 

Anyway, the pictures that follow aren’t the complete set–the rest of the food pictures are on my friends’ cameras, and they haven’t uploaded the pictures yet–so food from the first 2 days [in Pasadena] aren’t here yet!

Had this for breakfast every morning–not the best thing for me, but better that than nothing?

Also, apparently I’m friends with people who don’t need to eat–therefore I pretty much subsisted on that stuff the entire day at Disneyland until dinner time. Ridiculous. [I had a good time nonetheless, but why do we have to skip food?!]

Bought a pomegranite paradise smoothie with a free daily vitamin boost [don’t know whether this really is what it is–but given the nutritious meals I had during the day, I figured I had nothing to loose] from Jamba Juice that night, originally as my dinner, but then I realized I’d rather have real dinner food, so I had some form of soup [really salty, I had to dump over half a cup of water in the thing to tame it] , and saved the rest of my smoothie for breakfast the next day:

I’m so glad I saved enough $$ for this. On the left, wild rice salad with chicken and veggies, in the middle–pasta salad, on the right–fruit salad. All for $4.99!

Dinner was airport food, but still a lot better than what I’ve been having in the past couple of days:

I had enough $$ to buy something to drink, so I got a tall sweetened ice coffee:

I had to keep going back to add more milk, since I like my coffee to be creamy ๐Ÿ˜€

So I’m back in school now, and dad flew from BC to help me move stuff into my dorm. He stayed in this inn that offered free breakfast. So of course I was all over that–I mean, check this out:

I went back for half a piece of pound cake and a bit more milk ๐Ÿ˜€ Great stuff!

All caught up on meals! I think I still have some oatmeal pictures left on my home computer, but I’m not going to worry about those too much. Anyway, tomorrow’s breakfast is very exciting because I’ll be having oatmeal for the first time in 5 days! I think I’ll go to sleep early tonight so breakfast will arrive earlier ๐Ÿ˜€

Oatmeal #57: Chocolate Rice July 2, 2008

Noooo I thought I had finally figured out how my camera works, but it turns out I haven’t! So there’s no closeup picture today–’cause all of them were blurry :X I guess the search for the perfect picture taking environment continues!

Anywhoo today’s breakfast contains:

  • 0.33 cup oats
  • 2 tbsp white sushi rice [leftovers from my rice milk making ๐Ÿ˜€ ]
  • 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 tbsp Kellogg’s All-Bran cereal
  • 20 grapes
  • 1 tbsp wheat germ
  • 1 tbsp chopped sunflower seeds
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 0.25 cup milk

Oats were runny again! What is it with today’s breakfast, dude? So annoying ๐Ÿ‘ฟ I think it’s ’cause the rice doesn’t soak up as much water as oats does…but anyway the chopped seeds and cereal gave my oats a grainy texture–very fun to chew! The grapes provided little explosions of sweetness and some fun crunch ๐Ÿ˜€ So taste-wise, this bowl was a success!

And I’ve decided I’m going to start keeping track of my nutrient intake just for fun! ๐Ÿ˜€ So this breakfast has: 11.5g fat, 7.5g fiber, 20g protein –wow, I get so little fiber! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Anyway, my post-run snack picture turned out quite well:

I had pumpkin, yogurt, cinnamon, kiwi, and I broke up the granola bars that I made into pieces to eat with the yogurt–yum! It was quite filling ๐Ÿ˜€

This snack has: 6g fat, 7g fiber, 8g protein

Lastly, for lunch today:

A tofu-ketchup sandwich! Along with raspberry-banana rice milk, which I’ve decided I’m going to save as a snack later on to fuel me through my lab work! The sandwich did a pretty good job of keeping me full anyway–that extra piece of bread I threw in today definitely helped!

The lunch contains: 10g fat, 10g fiber, 11g protein. [oh this is so oddly entertaining! I’ll be keeping this up for a while ๐Ÿ˜€ ]

Experiment #22: Rice May 18, 2008

Mom cooked a lot of rice on Wednesday night, so I decided to make rice balls:

I made these after I finished with the stuff I was making for some potluck/lab meeting. Since I forgot to soak the oats the night before, I just grabbed from the bag and mixed it with the rice and got a-rolling ๐Ÿ˜€ The oats made the rice crunchy!

The rice ball on the right was drizzled with coffee sauce, the one on the left with chocolate sauce–it was aweseome. I think grains in general taste good with everything.

Oh and if you want to know what I made for the lab potluck:


Vanilla pound cake with chocolate & coffee sace

The idea came from chow.com–my new favorite website. I baked the cakes a little longer so they’d be crunchier and suitable for sauce dipping~since the liquids would make the cake mushy anyway.

Yar~I thought they were quite good…and I would have taken the leftovers home with me…but I had to leave the potluck early and when I went back to collect my food, the room was empty and all the food had gone…somewhere. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I hope they weren’t thrown out or anything…
