Elongated vowels to emphasize my excitement!

Now that exams are over, regular posting of entries and blog reading can resume! πŸ˜€

First bowl of stove-cooked oatmeal in months:

My breakfast just a few minutes ago!

  • oats, cinnamon, milk, small banana, white & dark chocolate chips, almonds

+ hazelnut mocha

Against a snowy backdrop! We’re having some kind of snow storm right now, which kinda kills my soul but at the same time I’d rather be stuck in the snow at home than at school…


The same thing in pancake form and without the white chocolate chips:

Quaker’s quick oats just aren’t powdery enough for the texture that I usually get! But I kinda like this chewy version :mrgreen:

On the morning of my last exam:

  • strawberries!, a very small banana, flax, coffee, cottage cheese, mocha, PB

There were more strawberries involved than depicted above, but they were hidden :mrgreen:

And yeah…there’s a whole bunch of exam-time oatmeal pictures that I skipped, but that’s ’cause those ones aren’t really pretty! I’ll probably post them all in a blob later on though–just because some of them are kinda fun! But I’m not going to upload them now because I have HOMEWORK to do.

[I think my TA may have taken the "spirit of giving" concept a little too far…]

To be fair…there is pumpkin in the oatmeal!

  • Β whole wheat bread “pumpkin”, Tomato pretz “stem”

  • strawberries and walnuts for fun! :mrgeen:

I was going to use an english muffin instead, but the cafeteria had none of that so I had to improvise!

So glad Halloween’s on a Friday this year~

And today’s also my mom’s birthday!

Is anyone dressing up and going out this year??

Anywhoo–I’m almost caught up! Now that midterms are mostly over [one more in November]–I can post somewhat regularly!

Buckwheat noodles! If I had some mirin to put in soy sauce my life would have been complete. Still a good meal though!

As for the tea--I have no clue what it is but it tastes great and I think it's passionfruit 'cause it smells really sweet...but I'm not sure! It was great though--the tea turned an awesome shade of red when I poured in the water! Highlight of my day πŸ˜€

Noodles, broccoli, carrots, beans, seasoning, black pepper?

Part II:

Turkey!!, cranberry stuffing!!!, carrots, beans

I was supposed to save this for Friday--but for some reason I was feeling ravenous that day, so I ate it :mrgreen: I ate 3 boxes [the 2nd box was unphotographed 'cause I didn't feel like it πŸ˜€ ] of vegetables--which is actually kinda awesome but I was so stuffed by the end D: I guess that's why you have to eat slowly so this doesn't happen πŸ˜›

Question: which is better--apples & PB or banana & PB?

Congee with mushrooms, rice, celery, ginger, minced meat [pork?] and oysters! Dad made this–it was really good~

August 27



Heheh. Instant noodles. With chicken wings and veggies. I think this was a late lunch and that’s why we had a smaller meal?

Anyway, that doesn’t matter ’cause bubble tea followed as a snack!


It is tres awesome that mom knows how to make this stuff. Best bubble tea ever.

Oatmeal #102: Bubble Tea


There were leftover tapioca from bubble tea–so I put them to good use! :mrgreen:

  • blanched almonds + walnuts
  • 1 cup tea + 0.25 cup milk

I think I ran on the day I ate this, but I’m not sure? Either way–yams!



Mom made the round rice ball things, and we bought the dumplings from a store, but I was in charge of cooking everything πŸ˜€

Oatmeal #103: Sweet Walnut Soup

Thank god for leftovers:


My breakfast on the morning of my flight to California. I didn’t have time to cook the oats, so I just dumped raw oats into the walnut soup and ate the rest of the leftover fruits for breakfast. 

Anyway, the pictures that follow aren’t the complete set–the rest of the food pictures are on my friends’ cameras, and they haven’t uploaded the pictures yet–so food from the first 2 days [in Pasadena] aren’t here yet!

Had this for breakfast every morning–not the best thing for me, but better that than nothing?

Also, apparently I’m friends with people who don’t need to eat–therefore I pretty much subsisted on that stuff the entire day at Disneyland until dinner time. Ridiculous. [I had a good time nonetheless, but why do we have to skip food?!]

Bought a pomegranite paradise smoothie with a free daily vitamin boost [don’t know whether this really is what it is–but given the nutritious meals I had during the day, I figured I had nothing to loose] from Jamba Juice that night, originally as my dinner, but then I realized I’d rather have real dinner food, so I had some form of soup [really salty, I had to dump over half a cup of water in the thing to tame it] , and saved the rest of my smoothie for breakfast the next day:


With a banana! I was so happy I could cry.

I’m so glad I saved enough $$ for this. On the left, wild rice salad with chicken and veggies, in the middle–pasta salad, on the right–fruit salad. All for $4.99!

Dinner was airport food, but still a lot better than what I’ve been having in the past couple of days:


I had enough $$ to buy something to drink, so I got a tall sweetened ice coffee:

So I’m back in school now, and dad flew from BC to help me move stuff into my dorm. He stayed in this inn that offered free breakfast. So of course I was all over that–I mean, check this out:

I went back for half a piece of pound cake and a bit more milk πŸ˜€ Great stuff!

All caught up on meals! I think I still have some oatmeal pictures left on my home computer, but I’m not going to worry about those too much. Anyway, tomorrow’s breakfast is very exciting because I’ll be having oatmeal for the first time in 5 days! I think I’ll go to sleep early tonight so breakfast will arrive earlier πŸ˜€

Vacationing has lazied me! [so much that I can’t be bothered to use proper verbs]Β  Haven’t been blogging, haven’t been catching up with other blogs–roar.

Oatmeal #98: Peppermint Tea

In yet another digging-through-the-pantry quest–I discovered a box of peppermint tea. Of course, I immediately thought: oatmeal + blogging = EATING ADVENTURES πŸ˜€

Not much stuff in this one–I think we were out of fruits:

  • oats
  • water
  • 2% milk
  • brown sugar [sprinkled on top ’cause it was a last minute addition]
  • walnuts
  • ground almonds
  • cinnamon
  • 1 peppermint tea bag


Oats + peppermint tea + toast + margarine

I think this tea the only kind [that I’ve tried so far] where I can actually taste the flavor. Don’t remember if the peppermint came through in the oats–but I could tell there was tea in there πŸ˜›

Post-something snack:

Could have been just a FEED ME snack for all I know πŸ˜› Don’t remember if I yoga-ed in the morning or in the evening~


Digest crackers dipped to sogginess in milk = favorite snack from since…at least high school?! This is the first time I’ve had this since I came home, so naturally I had to go back for another cracker and more milk πŸ˜€

Oatmeal #99: Smoothies – Part IV

This is possibly the simplest ingredients list you’re ever going to see on this blog:

  • 0.5 cup quick oats
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.5 Fiji apple
  • 5 strawberries

Largest cup of smoothie I’ve made so far! Fruits really fills up space πŸ˜€

Oh oh so I ran on the treadmill instead of going outside since it was raining. So after a 45 minute run and I was walking to cool down, the machine said I was close to 1000 calories, but I saw that there were only three digit slots for the calorie counting slot! So I got curious and decided to walk a little longer to reach 1000 just to see if the machine would explode or something :mrgreen:

As you can see, nothing happened:

Oatmeal #95: Strawberry-Banana Cheesecake August 21, 2008

Tuesday’s breakfast:

WE FINALLY HAD BANANAS IN THE HOUSE! [they’re all gone now–hence past tense and sad face: 😦 ] You can imagine how exciting that is πŸ˜€

Mom also baked some cheesecake the night before, so combine that thought + breakfast and you get another oatmeal experiment!

I think I had about half a slice in there–but that’s plenty once you break it up and mash it into the oatmeal while they’re cooking. And since I already had the cake to flavor the oats, I chopped the banana instead of mashing it like I usually do.


This picture makes it look gross, but it isn’t! I blame the bad weather, which also meant poor lighting!

The cheesecake flavor wasn’t that strong–I had to actively search for its taste–I guess maybe I’ll use the cake as a topping next time?

Other things I added: vanilla extract, almonds, soy milk, cinnamon, mixed grains



When I’m home, it’s very rare that I ever have sandwiches for lunch [I know–I’m spoiled rotten!] But that day I guess no one felt like cooking so my brother went to buy McDonalds [for my parents] and Subway [for himself]. I didn’t feel like waiting ’cause I was hungry–so I made a sandwich!

I sliced one piece of thick white bread in half since I had another piece earlier and didn’t feel up to eating three thick slices of bread x_X

Contents: honey ham, roasted turkey, lettuce, apple slices.

Awesome sweet + savory combo! Am definitely recreating this when I go back to school in September!

Contents: oats, grains, small egg, corn, banana, soy milk

Plus a cup of raspberry mocha! [the cocoa blend I added was raspberry flavored–but I think a mocha smoothie is definitely in my future!]

Post-run snack:


Milk, cheerios, bran flakes, raw brownie.

The brownies turned the milk into chocolate milk! Awesome πŸ˜€

Monday’s breakfast: More smoothie adventures!

This time:

  • 0.25 cup oats
  • 0.25 cup mixed grains
  • 0.25 cup soy milk
  • 0.25 cup 2% milk
  • 0.25 cup water
  • last of my goji berries [1.5 tbsp?]
  • 0.5 small carrot [yeah…I was looking for things to bulk up my smoothie with]
  • 0.25 cup corn
  • 2 medium strawberries

I’m not sure but I think I might have gotten a bigger cup this time? If not, well…I felt much more full after drinking, so…?


But yeah I was really impressed with the strawberries ’cause I could smell and taste them even though I only threw two random ones in! Awesome πŸ˜€ And I couldn’t taste the carrot & corn at all–even though I definitely chewed on some carrot pieces.

Tasted good though! Not too sweet, doughy, crunchy, chewy πŸ˜€ Kinda like last time!

Got hungry a while later, so had some soup:


Winter melon…? And shitake mushrooms.

Another snack…may have been after running…? I think that was the day I went running with my dad…? [oh no–early onset Alzheimer’s?!]

My raw brownies!!! Turned out actually brownie-like this time! ZOMFG. I used almonds and raisins [I threw in 2 pieces of apricot in ’cause I didn’t want to use up all the raisins], and I think I overdid the raisins ’cause it was too sweet–but that problem was solved by throwing in the peanut butter!

The stuff in the bowl is just soup with a scoop of congree [rice + water] mixed in.



I had like…3 bowls ’cause I was starving! I don’t understand why I’m always hungry…?

But anyway–the red stuff is something called Honeymoon fried rice? Or something? It comes with tomato sauce & chicken & onions on one side, alfredo & shrimp on the other side. And the rice + egg is underneath the sauce. It’s very yum πŸ˜€

The noodles’ just rice noodles + shrimp + egg. ❀

Nooo I can’t believe it’s almost the end of August–this has got to be the fastest summer ever!

Oatmeal #50: Longans – Part I June 24, 2008

Saturday’s breakfast–man, I’m really behind!

Sorry for the blurry picture! My camera sucks at taking pictures with natural lighting 😐

And this is my 50th experiment! Although there were a lot of similarities across the comboes, I’ve at least made sure that no combo is exactly the same! Therefore my conclusion is that I’m really awesome πŸ˜€ It’s unfortunate that I didn’t realize this was my 50th when I was preparing it! πŸ˜› If I had known, there would have been some chocolate thrown in at the very least!

Even more muesli πŸ˜€ With banana and my first ever cup of chai tea


  • 0.5 cup oats
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.25 cup soy milk
  • 2 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 8 pieces longans
  • 3-4 medium strawberries [don’t remember exact amount…]
  • 2 tsp sunflower seeds
  • 1 tbsp wheat germ

Whooo–longans! Have never tried these in anything other than the soups that my mom makes, so I have no clue before hand exactly what their real flavors were! Although I did hypothesize that they’d be ten times sweeter since they’re not soaked in boiling water for a really long time. And being the smart person that I am–I was totally right πŸ˜€

They’re a strange mix of chewy and crunchy [it’s a very subtle crunch], and really sweet~I think as sweet as goji berries…maybe even sweeter? It’s a good thing I balanced that with the less sweet taste of strawberries, or I would have exploded! Anyway, if you’ve had lychees before, you’d like longans πŸ˜€

Anyway, since this is the 50th–it gets an entire entry devoted to it! [And also because I realized just now that I forgot to upload my lunch pictures πŸ˜› ]

Am blogging at the lab right now :mrgreen: I’m such a slacker.

Saturday’s breakfast.
I wish I could have turned this into a smoothie! It was sooo good. I love the combo of strawberry-banana with just about anything!

Had my oatmeal along with the rest of the banana.

I packed a lunch on Friday ’cause I knew I’d be at the lab for a while:

I put celery in my sandwich ’cause I was out of sandwich meat πŸ˜› It was a bit messy ’cause the celery kept falling out!
The salad on the side contains some more celery, carrots, frozen mixed veggies, blueberries, and a teaspoon of parmesan–it was all soggy by the time I got around to eating it at 11: 00, probably due to the frozen blueberries melting. But I was able to ignore that ’cause it still tasted fine πŸ˜€

And I was so excited for dinner ’cause I was having curry! Haven’t made this in so long, and mom brought me a whole packet of it so yay! Let’s just say curry’s going to be on the menu for a while πŸ˜€

With celery, carrots, mushrooms, brussel sprouts, half a salmon fillet, and brown&white rice!

Now gotta get back to work!

Mocha berries

Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, sugar, coffee powder, cocoa, 1% milk

Three different kinds of berries! How exciting is that? Sad news is that I used up the last of my strawberries 😦 Have to wait til Friday til I can see what type of fruits I can get for sale price!

Anyway~coffee & chocolate & fruits definitely go together! And the berries look so bright & colorful against the chocolae-coffee oatmeal!
Couldn’t stop staring that that very blue blueberry!

Forgot to add the walnuts when the first picture was taken πŸ˜›

Italian breakfast

I made polenta! Was so excited for this ’cause I went on a 1 hour 20 minute walk [back and forth :D] for a bag of cornmeal just so I could experience the wonders of polenta :mrgreen:

After 40 minutes of hardcore stirring!

Not sure how much water to add so I kept adding the water til 40 minutes was over :mrgreen: Guess now that I’ve had the full polenta experience, I can just use the low heat trick from now on!

Apparently Austrians eat polenta for breakfast too!

Polenta with milk, apples, and a little bit of sugar. Plus 2 potato scones [I went for seconds πŸ˜€ ] with plain yogurt & jam!

Pain au chocolat & pumpkin pie rice

Finished the day off with my own version of the french chocolate sandwich–using banana and cocoa powder, spread over a piece of toasted rye bread [they were on sale]! Was too lazy to get a new spoon to scoop the cocoa powder with so I made a mess πŸ˜›

Had my meal with a cup of Bolthouse Farms vanilla chai drink mixed with water.

The pumpkin pie rice [topped with all-bran & soy nuts as the “crust”] wasn’t as sweet as I hoped…so I threw in the bananas left over from the chocolate bread πŸ˜€ Was a very filling meal! Although I think I’m going to take a short hiatus from pumpkin for a while!

Tomorrow’s the last day of the challenge! Can’t believe it’s almost over already–the five days are just flying by!
