Don’t you love those?!
- pumpkin, Muslix cereal, cinnamon, milk, walnuts, flax
Banana, greek yogurt, brown rice–if I had some PB this would have been perfect.
Soup with rice, chickpeas, kidney beans, spinach, broccoli. Boringgg did not like 😦
- Granny Smith apple, walnuts, apple juice, pumpkin
- Banana & PB!, black sesame, coconut, walnuts, flax, milk
Note the use of an actual bowl and using a cup like a cup is supposed to be used! It was a glorious moment.
Vanilla [?] yogurt, cheerios, raw oats, huge loving splat of PB
Chili of some sort [vegetarian?], chickpeas, kidney beans, huge pile of broccoli. I think I went for seconds?
- Lipton Apple Manor tea, pumpkin, Muslix cereal, walnuts, cinnamon, milk
The tea smells really good and tastes very cinnamon-y! It’s always awesome when I find tea that’s not bland tasting~
PB&B sandwich, broccoli, chickpeas, kidney beans, parmesan cheese.
That’s all I’m going to post for now ’cause I have a commerce assignment due in….10 hours? 😛
Oatmeal #119 – Asian style oats September 29, 2008Posted by oatmeal in Breakfast, Dinner, Lunch.
Tags: dates, longans, rice, tea
- oats, flax, walnuts, milk
- 0.25 cup cooked brown rice
- 1 cup green tea + 0.25 tsp matcha powder
- goji berries
- dried dates
My mom sometimes uses those ingredients [excluding everything in the first row, of course 😛 ] when she makes soup–hence the entry title 😀
They really sweeten everything up–I was pleasantly surprised 😀
I added some matcha powder ’cause I know green tea has a very mild flavor, and the powder really did help–great aftertaste!
I think I’m getting better at sneakily taking pictures in the caf! I found a great spot [not by the window, unfortunately–hence crap lighting] that has relatively few people sitting around so I can whip out le camera without feeling too self-conscious 😛
[This was my second bowl of yogurt by the way–they had greek yogurt–how can I stay away?!]
I took too much peanut butter, that plus two bowls of spinach were really filling!
But dinner was good–even though I prefer going to the other caf for meals [but that one’s closed on the weekends so I have no choice 😛 ] I do like this caf for their booths though! Makes picture taking easier! [Hence why you don’t ever see caf pictures on the weekdays!]
And aaah I really need to catch up on posts ’cause this week has already started and I haven’t finished posting pictures from last week! I’m excited for this week’s theme 😀
Oatmeal #118: Peppermint PB&B September 28, 2008Posted by oatmeal in Breakfast, Lunch.
Tags: banana, peanut butter, tea
- oats, flax walnuts
- 1 cup peppermint tea
- 1 banana
- 2 tbsp PB
AKA The best thing ever + minty fresh flavor! You only see a tiny blob of PB in the picture, but that’s only ’cause the food will overflow if I dropped in all two tablespoons at once! And wow, you guys were right–the PB does make me feel fuller than just walnuts alone! Awesome 😀
It’s also Homecoming weekend at my school–so this is kinda like me celebrating the occasion! It’s so cool watching groups of alumni wearing their faculty jackets around campus!
- Brown rice, cauliflowers, chickpeas, kidney beans, EVOO, rice vinegar, Japanese rice seasoning
I ate it rice salad style since I was too hungry to reheat! Also, I wanted to throw in some chopped apples–but again–too hungry! I ate it separately instead!
Oh by the way–can anyone recommend some TV shows to watch? Right now, I’m watching House, Heroes, The Office, Grey’s Anatomy, and Privileged–I need more shows to fuel my procrastination tendencies! Help me!! 😀
Oatmeal #117: English Breakfast September 27, 2008Posted by oatmeal in Breakfast.
Tags: savory oats, tea
I needed a break from sweet oats, so savory oats it was!
- oats, flax, walnuts, Kellogg’s all-bran cereal
- 1 tsp parmesan
- 0.25 chicken bouillon cube [wayyy too much]
- 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
- ~1.5 slice turkey
- 1 cup English Breakfast tea
I was full to the max after this–which is awesome because I don’t have that much snacks lying around to eat!
The English Breakfast tea, according to what the packet said, is a blend of North Indian, Kenyan, and “other choice teas”…not sure what that means but I’ve never heard of any of these teas so who cares! 😀 It doesn’t taste much different from any other tea I’ve tried though–maybe I’m just not experienced enough to know the difference 😛
Oh, and I restocked my stash again yesterday ’cause I was worried that I wouldn’t have enough to last til December!
I now have a whole row in my pantry dedicated to oatmeal It is glorious.
For some reason I was really sleepy in class yesterday…so I was even more distracted than usual…it’s a wonder I actually have these bio notes to photograph!
Oatmeal #116: Blueberry White Tea September 26, 2008Posted by oatmeal in Breakfast, Snack.
Tags: coconut, nectarine, tea
edit: Hopefully the pictures show up now?
- oats, flax, walnuts
- 1 nectarine
- 1 tsp shredded coconut
- 1 cup blueberry white tea
Haven’t had this tea in a while–forgot how good it smells. I find that a lot of the teas I use are more aromatic than flavorful–even when I just drink it plain, which I guess is still more exciting than just plain water! 😀 Also, I haven’t touched a cup of coffee since I started this tea thing~[although the caffeine will most likely reappear when the week is over–I like the taste too much!]
And I notice that I’m not feeling as full even though I make these huge bowls of oatmeal [I use half a cup! How can that not be enough?!]–I don’t understand! Do I need to add more things? D: Maybe I need to take a break from sweet oatmeal?
The best combo in the whole entire world! I think someone [magpie, I think?] suggested the PB&B&Honey and I have yet to try that! Must make it a mission this weekend when I go to the caf 😀
Oatmeal #115: Ginger Tea September 25, 2008Posted by oatmeal in Breakfast.
Tags: apples, cereal, tea
- oats, flax, walnuts, Muslix cereal
- water & milk
- 1 cooked gala apple
- 1 cup ginger tea
- 0.5 tsp ground ginger & cinnamon
I cooked the apples this time I’ve always wanted to try it! Turns out I didn’t cook it enough, but I was too lazy to use the microwave 😛
The tea’s not very gingery…adding ground ginger helped a little, but not very much! Maybe I’ll add another 0.25 tsp next time!
It’s a short post today ’cause I have a bio quiz and chem lab to prepare for!
But here’s a question: apples — cooked or raw [or some other form!] –which do you like best with oatmeal?
Oatmeal #114: Orange Pekoe September 24, 2008Posted by oatmeal in Breakfast, Lunch, Snack.
Tags: longans, pear, tea
At least I think it is…
- oats, flax, walnuts
- milk & water
- 1 pear, mashed!
- 7 longans
- 1 cup orange pekoe [?] tea
The reason I don’t know is ’cause I was running out of different kinds of tea and had to resort to taking things from the caf 😛 And they didn’t have the tea bags in the package, so I have no clue what this is! It smells like orange pekoe? But it could have been red or black tea….?
It was so exciting ’cause the oats were heated enough for me to do banana-oatmeal-style thing with the pears! Pear oatmeal = awesome. I think any type of mushy fruit mashed into oatmeal = awesome, actually 😀
Anyway–I think so far, Earl Grey is still the most flavorful!
Sorry for the visual grossness? 😛
- 0.5 cup mocha
- 1 packet instant cereal
- 1 tbsp quick oats
- 2 tbsp Kellogg’s Just Right cereal
- 1 banana
- lots of boiled water and a splash of milk
It’s like having two breakfasts 😀
Lunch Part II:
Vanilla yogurt, peach, Kellogg’s Just Right cereal , lots of cinnamon
It’s part II ’cause we got free food at the anti-food-wasting pledge signing! But I was so nervous about eating when so many people could watch me [they probably weren’t–but I’m paranoid] that I didn’t end up eating more than an english muffin + baba ghanoush, and some veggies & beans 😛
And aaah I can’t believe this is the 3rd week of classes already…how is this possible?! Although I’m not complaining ’cause that means winter vacation will arrive in no time! 😀
Oatmeal #113: Chamomile September 23, 2008Posted by oatmeal in Breakfast, Dinner, Recipes, Snack.
Tags: coconut, goji berries, oranges, tea
- oats, flax, walnuts
- 1 tbsp goji berries
- 1 tsp unsweetened shredded coconut
- 0.5 cup mandarin oranges
- 1 cup chamomile tea
- 0.25 cup milk
I’ve tried chamomile tea once before–and found that it smelled great–like flowers–but didn’t really have much taste~therefore I also couldn’t pick out the flavor in my oats! Oh well~
I forgot to bring my water bottle when I headed over to the lab after lunch…so I tried something new:
Has anyone else seen/tried this?
I think it’s a new product…Nestea Vitao. I got the Fuji apple green tea–great flavor! You can actually taste the tea and apples together, which is pretty cool, although I think it’s something you can easily make at home just by blending cold green tea with apple juice–I guess it’s convenient if you’re in a rush!
According to what I found out on google, some people seemed to have experienced some weird bout of hyperactive jitteriness after drinking this? I didn’t feel anything though, so it’s probably more an idiosyncratic thing than a general thing!
Pasta salad! I think I like pasta salads even more than regular pasta with sauce–’cause there’s usually too much sauce and not enough flavor.
Anyway, I found a new salad dressing combo that I really like! Here’s that I had:
- 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 0.5 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp parmesan cheese
It sounds like there’s too much acid, but there really isn’t! You get a great mild, lemony flavor and it’s rather awesome 😀 Definitely will be using this again in the future!
Oatmeal #112: Earl Grey September 22, 2008Posted by oatmeal in Breakfast, Dinner, Lunch.
Tags: peaches, sesame, tea
This week’s theme is tea!
Earl Grey = best tea ever.
I haven’t tried a lot of different types since I’m not a tea person, but I really like Earl Grey! It’s probably the only type of tea I can drink by itself, because it’s so flavorful that nothing else is required!
- oats, flax, walnuts
- 1.5 tsp sesame paste powder
- 1 cup Earl Grey
- 0.25 cup milk
Yumfulness! The sesame was added for fun 😀
I find that cooking oats with tea instead of with water gives it an awesome aftertaste! It also smells a lot more exciting
I think with my relatively limited resources and access to the grocery stores, I might start doing weekly themes instead of trying completely new combos everyday–I need to save brain space for classes!
Lunch at the caf:
Buttermilk pancake – the smallest thing ever, but SO GOOD. I break it up into pieces and eat it with the yogurt, cottage cheese, cereal, mandarin oranges, and PB–heaven!
My completely huge dinner:
clockwise from top left corner: macaroni salad with chickpeas, celery, red peppers, huge bowl of spinach, whole wheat english muffin with baba ghanoush [!!], cucumbers, and more spinach.
Doesn’t look like a lot–but I actually went back for another bowlful of spinach and some honeydew melons!
Oh, and I didn’t eat both english mufins–the one at the bottom was meant to be saved for another meal–but then I realized it was moldy and had to throw it out 😦
Turkey noodle soup with my third bowl of spinach–I think I might have eaten too much by this point ’cause I felt like I was exploding 😛
Speaking of cafeterias–the anti-food-wasting group I’m in is conducting some sort of pledge signing today in an effort to get people to pledge that they’ll stop wasting caf food! I think we’re going to try and get weekly stats so we can track our progress–but I hope the turnout is good ’cause otherwise I’d feel stupid sitting in the middle of the caf with an empty sheet of paper in front of me 😛
Non-Oatmeal Stuff #12: Vacation Post September 6, 2008Posted by oatmeal in Breakfast, Dessert, Dinner, Lunch, Non-Oatmeal Stuff, Snack.
Tags: chocolate, grapes, muesli, rice, strawberries, tea, walnuts
I highly do not remember the dates for these meals, so I’m just going to guess:
Congee with mushrooms, rice, celery, ginger, minced meat [pork?] and oysters! Dad made this–it was really good~
Heheh. Instant noodles. With chicken wings and veggies. I think this was a late lunch and that’s why we had a smaller meal?
Anyway, that doesn’t matter ’cause bubble tea followed as a snack!
It is tres awesome that mom knows how to make this stuff. Best bubble tea ever.
Oatmeal #102: Bubble Tea
There were leftover tapioca from bubble tea–so I put them to good use!
- chocolate chips
- tapioca [2 tbsp?]
- 3 glutinous rice balls
- blanched almonds + walnuts
- 1 cup tea + 0.25 cup milk
I think I ran on the day I ate this, but I’m not sure? Either way–yams!
Mom made the round rice ball things, and we bought the dumplings from a store, but I was in charge of cooking everything 😀
One last bowl of sweet walnut soup with glutinous rice balls for dessert at night:
OH MY GOD SEND ME HOME NOW.
Oatmeal #103: Sweet Walnut Soup
Thank god for leftovers:
My breakfast on the morning of my flight to California. I didn’t have time to cook the oats, so I just dumped raw oats into the walnut soup and ate the rest of the leftover fruits for breakfast.
Anyway, the pictures that follow aren’t the complete set–the rest of the food pictures are on my friends’ cameras, and they haven’t uploaded the pictures yet–so food from the first 2 days [in Pasadena] aren’t here yet!
Check out the stuff that got me through 3 breakfasts + 1 lunch in Anaheim:
Had this for breakfast every morning–not the best thing for me, but better that than nothing?
Also, apparently I’m friends with people who don’t need to eat–therefore I pretty much subsisted on that stuff the entire day at Disneyland until dinner time. Ridiculous. [I had a good time nonetheless, but why do we have to skip food?!]
Bought a pomegranite paradise smoothie with a free daily vitamin boost [don’t know whether this really is what it is–but given the nutritious meals I had during the day, I figured I had nothing to loose] from Jamba Juice that night, originally as my dinner, but then I realized I’d rather have real dinner food, so I had some form of soup [really salty, I had to dump over half a cup of water in the thing to tame it] , and saved the rest of my smoothie for breakfast the next day:
With a banana! I was so happy I could cry.
That stuff is really red…
Stolen hotel goods:
OH MY GOD REAL FOOD FOR LUNCH?!
I’m so glad I saved enough $$ for this. On the left, wild rice salad with chicken and veggies, in the middle–pasta salad, on the right–fruit salad. All for $4.99!
Dinner was airport food, but still a lot better than what I’ve been having in the past couple of days:
I had enough $$ to buy something to drink, so I got a tall sweetened ice coffee:
I had to keep going back to add more milk, since I like my coffee to be creamy 😀
So I’m back in school now, and dad flew from BC to help me move stuff into my dorm. He stayed in this inn that offered free breakfast. So of course I was all over that–I mean, check this out:
And that’s just one part of it! [I was too self-conscious to take any more pictures 😛 ]
My breakfast this morning:
I went back for half a piece of pound cake and a bit more milk 😀 Great stuff!
All caught up on meals! I think I still have some oatmeal pictures left on my home computer, but I’m not going to worry about those too much. Anyway, tomorrow’s breakfast is very exciting because I’ll be having oatmeal for the first time in 5 days! I think I’ll go to sleep early tonight so breakfast will arrive earlier 😀
