Last breakfast at home 😦 [this was a few days ago–jan3]
- oatmeal, banana, black & white chocolate chips, cinnamon, almond extract, almonds, milk
WILL MY BREAKFAST EVER LOOK THIS GOOD AGAIN?!
Maybe I’ll wake up earlier so I’ll have time to cook the oatmeal on stovetop–the boiling water method makes oatmeal so ugly 😦
More pictures just for good measure! I miss being home already…AND I JUST GOT BACK TO SCHOOL -headdesk-
I guess it’s not so much being home as having enough time to go to the grocery store…but my parents aren’t here! [And just for good measure–I also miss being able to play Guitar Hero everyday]
Still jetlagged. It always takes me a while to adjust to the time difference. Booo because I want to go to the gym! I have too much energy 😛 Can’t sit still in class! That’s why I always sit in the front row in lectures, ’cause I keep crossing and uncrossing my legs and I need room to fidget

After two years of camera ownage, I have finally discovered how to take closeups!
Yesterday:
Yay!
Here’s another one:
Whoooo!
- black glutinous rice, chopped almonds, banana, milk, quick oats
+ rice milk + milk mixed together
So good! The black rice is chewy and a little sweet–like a blend of wheatberries + normal rice!
And I think I’m going to chop up my almonds from now on–they last longer this way! 😛
Dinner:
Hot pot!
+ TV
In the pot: Fish balls + tofu + shitake mushrooms + some abalone-looking mushroom
We dip this stuff in a mix of raw eggs, soy sauce, and satay sauce! ❤
I’m going to miss this at school 😦
This morning:
The same thing as yesterday morning–presented in a different way!
I added wheatberries today though~
More closeups!
Rice milk + milk again
Lunch just now:
x 1.5
It was good–but not very filling! Luckily for this:
❤
Baked yams!
Mom made them 😀
I think she sprinkled some brown sugar on top–so they were extra sweet! The yellow ones are soooo awesome. Yams & sweet potatoes > potatoes any day!
Am currently going back and forth between lolcats and my homework and blogging. Iz mooti-taskin!

Dec 23:
Oatmeal #141: Irish Cream Oatmeal
- 2 tsp Bailey’s Irish Cream Liqueur, 1 tsp instant coffee, 0.25 cup milk, 0.75 cup water, handful almonds & pine nuts, dash cinnamon, 1 tbsp wheat berries, 1 small banana
This is my first cup of Irish cream "coffee"! I saw the bottle of Bailey’s on the kitchen counter and my mom told me it was for putting in coffee…so naturally, the first thing I thought of was oatmeal.
Only 2 tsp of the liqueur–but I could smell/taste it in every bite! Definitely will be having a variation of this later on.
Christmas eve:
- grapes, almonds, almond extra, almond powder, wheatberries, milk, cinnamon
No banana in the house day #1! Good thing there were grapes, and good thing I had the foresight to wash an entire bag the night before so I wouldn’t have to wash any more the next morning!
I definitely like red grapes better than the green or the black kind. So much crunchier and sweeter! Which kind do you guys like better?

It is giant because it’s a catch-up post! 😀
Dec 22
- wheatberries!!, white chocolate chips, almonds, cashews, cinnamon
+ hazelnut mocha
I have finally hopped on the wheatberry train! A very chewy train, I might add [does that even make sense?]
And having chocolate chips in my oatmeal makes my mornings exciting!
Lunch:
DUMPLINGS! [I had 3 bowls of that stuff in total–would have had more, but we had to go out 😦 ]
Every time I have these, capital letters and exclamation marks are used, because they are awesome!
I added a shitake mushroom and some tofu thing, plus some fish thing 😛 I should find out what those are called!
Exam oatmeal:
The day before my orgo final:
I made exam art! The molecule depicted above is ethylene 😀
The rest of the other stuff:
Too lazy to describe every single one of them XD
Oh and there was this:
I documented the oatmeal making process! XD Too bad it was a failed experiment!
Yeah…didn’t taste that good…the only thing that saved it were the PB and the peaches…
To finish off:
Frozen yogurt!
It was so cold that everything in my fridge was frozen XD
The snow over here is ridiculous! I have never seen so much snow in Vancouver! There’s probably two feet of snow by now. Crazy!
What’re people doing for Christmas eve?!
My brain is trying to tell me something… December 5, 2008

This should tell you a little about my mental processes when I am working:
True story. Nov 25. There were no witnesses, but I do have the screencap!
I thought it was hilarious that the program went “What?” like it was in disbelief

Oatmeal #138: Nutty Oats – Part IV + applesauce
- applesauce, sliced &blanched almonds, cinnamon, ground ginger, shredded coconut, PB, flax, milk, quick oats, organic oats
Applesauce in pancakes! I have never tried it–have you? I added the entire mini container–so I managed to get the apple flavor!
Also–I decided to blend two different types of oats together because I’m running out of quick oats [my weapon of choice for microwave pancakes] so I decided to mix it with organic oats–it turned out quite well, actually! I was afraid it might take longer to cook, but it didn’t! And it was much chewier too.
+ spiced chai tea with milk. I haven’t had tea + milk in ages! If I had sugar around as well, it would have been complete!
My very amazing lunch:
Something I haven’t had in a long time [since last year!]–couscous! Ever since the caf introduced it into my life, I have been hooked. Grains = awesome in all forms!
The above contains: couscous, dried apricots, peppers, carrots, beans, tomatoes, raisins, peas, lemon-garlic vinaigrette
Extra large lunch, extra awesome.
Night-time snack:
I believe it was for an all-nighter. Can’t remember if I succeeded in staying up all night or not…I probably didn’t…
Nov 27
- banana, cottage cheese, flax, peanuts, pistachios, green raisins, PB
+ coffee
Actually…maybe I did stay up all night…
2 more exams + 1 paper left!
So I only need another week of all-nighters and maybe 3 days of sleeping over at the lab, and then I will be writing my last exam and then going HOME!!!
I have been waiting for this since school started!

I’m in major confusion over everything in my orgo textbook. My exam is in two days. Verdict: SCREWED.
And when trouble comes my way, I procrastinate.

Oatmeal #137: Tropical Smoothie – Part II
- mango yogurt smoothie, PB, coconut, raisin granola, flax
The caf served these smoothies on Sunday–which was majorly exciting! Once in a while they’d spoil us like this…
Long story short: I took some of that stuff home for oatmeal! 😀 Dessert for breakfast for the win!
Nov 25
- Golden Delicious apples, sliced blanched almonds, flax, cottage cheese, PB, brown sugar
This week’s oatmeal has been so full of excitement! I haven’t had brown sugar in my oatmeal since…high school? That was how my mom made them! 😀
Question: What did your first bowl of oatmeal consist of?
Dinner:
Turkey breast + eng muffin + jam, peas
The lack of sleep is driving me nuts. Not to mention the fact that the chairs at the lab are extremely uncomfortable for sleeping on 😦 It’s at times like these that I wish I was a midget…

Nov 12
A huge bowl of oats for the first all-nighter of the year! And you all know I celebrate in style 😀
- banana, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, almonds, flax, milk
It was also the first time I’ve eaten pistachios since…a few years ago?! I wanted to put more pistachios in, but I suck so bad at opening those shells 😛 In the end, I got the idea to crack them open with my chem textbook–that’s putting my books to good use!
It was glorious. Too bad I had to enjoy it in the context of UV damaged yeast…
Nov 13
Day 2 of All-Nighter-thon!
Breakfast
cheerios, all-bran, rice krispies, banana & PB + coffee
I never get full on cereal–so I grabbed more food:
Pumperknickel + hummus + broccoli
There was another piece of bread–but I ate it before taking the picture 😛
Before heading off to orgo, I grabbed a cup of Earl Grey for Energy.
Didn’t want to drink any more coffee! I think I had like…3 cups of coffee in the past two days–and I have never done that until now~
Post-Handing-In-Lab-Report Dinner:
Peas, mushrooms, broccoli, kidney beans, egg, cottage cheese!
I seriously felt 10x lighter after I came out from the lab! But I was quickly brought back to earth by a Commerce assignment that was due the next day D:
Off to do my homework! I have a feeling another all-nighter is in my future…
Oatmeal #107: Mystery [sort of] revealed September 14, 2008

Roar–I give up:
DID. NOT. WORK.
Goodness–I hope this isn’t indicative of how chem labs would go for me this year…
I was closer to the desired effect, but not close enough! I don’t understand–I heated the water just like the instructions said…
Anyway, here’s what the “mystery ingredient” is:
And the white stuff in the picture is what my attempts are supposed to look like–pudding, not slush!
I don’t understand 😦
Maybe ’cause I added heated water but it wasn’t boiling?!
But whatevz, at least it tastes good–very almond-y, a little too sweet though–should add more water or oats next time.
Basically:
- 0.25 cup oats
- 0.5 cup water
- walnuts, flax, Kellogg’s Just Right cereal
- 1 banana
- 2 tsp almond pudding powder
If you’re curious, the almond pudding stuff’s in a lot of asian grocery stores–best dessert/snack ever!
Lunch:
Snapped this picture at the caf ’cause I arrived early enough for it to not be awkward 😛
Check it–greek yogurt! I haven’t had it in AGES and I love that the caf serves it [although not all the time–dammit!] I had 2 bowls of this ’cause it’s AWESOME. To top off this awesomeness: fruit salad! Granted, the fruits are the canned, syrupy variety, but this is probably the closest I’ll get to having pineapples, papayas, and mangoes during the school year!
Anyway~thanks for all the input on the rec rowing on my last post! In the end I decided not to do it–too poor and not enough time 😦 SADNESS. Oh well–I joined an anti-food-wasting group instead 😀 First meeting was this morning–was really nervous, but it actually went okay! Sweetness 😀
What kind of stuff are you guys involved with this year?

Heheh.
Birthday card for my friend, Tina–happy birthday dude!
[I like rats 😀 ]
Yesterday!
Oatmeal #100
I basically threw in the dessert mom made from the night before into my oats. So combining two of my favorite things seemed fitting for the 100th oatmeal experiment!
- 0.33 cup oats
- 0.25 cup water
- 0.5 cup adzuki bean & lotus seed dessert
- 9 glutinous rice balls
- 0.25 cup milk
- 6 almonds
For some reason, the almonds make me think of squirrels 😛 It looks so forest-y with the green bowl!
Post-run snack
Oatmeal #101: Chocolate Matcha Smoothie
The partay continues after my 49 minute run [couldn’t quite make it to 50 after going up a huge hill 😛 ]
This smoothie was the only reason I only had 0.33 cup of oatmeal this morning–didn’t want no overdosin’!
- 1 cup boiled water
- 1 tsp matcha powder
- 0.25 cup soy milk
- 2 tbsp quick oats
- 1 tbsp chocolate chips
I dissolved the matcha powder in boiled water and let that sit for about…half an hour? And then I blended everything else together–it was a great way to make drinking tea fun! [I’m not really a tea person 😛 ]
I actually ended up with a bigger cup than I was expecting–oh well! 😀
Needed either some sugar or more chocolate~not quite sweet enough, but it was pleasantly mild with a very prominent green tea taste–so no complaints there!
2 more days til I leave for California! [I think after this trip, I’m going to have to stop spending $$$ for the next 5 years…]

Vacationing has lazied me! [so much that I can’t be bothered to use proper verbs] Haven’t been blogging, haven’t been catching up with other blogs–roar.
Saturday
Oatmeal #98: Peppermint Tea
In yet another digging-through-the-pantry quest–I discovered a box of peppermint tea. Of course, I immediately thought: oatmeal + blogging = EATING ADVENTURES 😀
Not much stuff in this one–I think we were out of fruits:
- oats
- water
- 2% milk
- brown sugar [sprinkled on top ’cause it was a last minute addition]
- walnuts
- ground almonds
- cinnamon
- 1 peppermint tea bag
Oats + peppermint tea + toast + margarine
I think this tea the only kind [that I’ve tried so far] where I can actually taste the flavor. Don’t remember if the peppermint came through in the oats–but I could tell there was tea in there 😛
Post-something snack:
Could have been just a FEED ME snack for all I know 😛 Don’t remember if I yoga-ed in the morning or in the evening~
Digest crackers dipped to sogginess in milk = favorite snack from since…at least high school?! This is the first time I’ve had this since I came home, so naturally I had to go back for another cracker and more milk 😀
Sunday
Oatmeal #99: Smoothies – Part IV
Am going to use the blender as many times as I can before I leave for school!
This is possibly the simplest ingredients list you’re ever going to see on this blog:
- 0.5 cup quick oats
- 0.5 cup milk
- 0.5 cup water
- 0.5 Fiji apple
- 5 strawberries
Largest cup of smoothie I’ve made so far! Fruits really fills up space 😀
Oh oh so I ran on the treadmill instead of going outside since it was raining. So after a 45 minute run and I was walking to cool down, the machine said I was close to 1000 calories, but I saw that there were only three digit slots for the calorie counting slot! So I got curious and decided to walk a little longer to reach 1000 just to see if the machine would explode or something
As you can see, nothing happened:
Not even a happy triumphant ditty or alarm bells or scientific notations or anything! What a cheap piece of crap!
Yesterday
Pile of mush
Cereal for breakfast!!!
Bran flakes, digest cracker, raw brownie, strawberries, milk & soy milk.
With raspberry mocha.
Post-yoga snack
Toast with blueberry yogurt spread on top 😀 I have such a huge sweet tooth, it’s ridiculous.
Dessert
!!!!!!
Home-made glutinous rice balls! Courtesy of mom, of course 😀 I stayed up just for this!
The other stuff: red beans + lotus seeds. I think I can die happy now~
Off to run in about half an hour!
